I've eaten hakarl. I enjoy natto. I love tendon. ... Durian? Lutefisk? You name it, I've eaten all sorts of different weird and wild foods from around the world. But, for whatever reason, I'd never eaten the fabled century egg. quote:Century eggs (Chinese: 皮蛋; pinyin: pídàn; Jyutping: pei4 daan2), also known as preserved egg, hundred-year egg, thousand-year egg, thousand-year-old egg, millennium egg, skin egg and black egg, are a Chinese preserved food product and delicacy made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, quicklime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months, even years, depending on the method of processing.[1] I made purchase of the century eggs, using the "devil's leaves" (money). Each egg came in its own little plastic bag. It is easily peeled... here we... go... and I must tragically inform you that it tastes fine. it has a little bit of an ashy/ammonia-y smell but it's completely edible with no special weird-food-eating powers. I'd actually say it's easier to eat than salted duck egg, just because those are so salty (though great in soup). thanks for reading.

Funky See Funky Do posted:How many do you think you could eat in one sitting? Three maybe? I love to eat hardboiled egg whites. Often a meal can be 8 hard-boiled eggs but only the yolk of one of them. However, for these century eggs, the whites are kind of rubbery so they're not as tasty to me. The yolk is quite good but any more than 3 yolks of any egg and that's more than heavy enough.

Half of the stuff in that list is literally just Traditional Egg Preservation Stuff tbh, it's not really surprising that it's not actually that weird.

Any fully informed consumer would be glad to pay more
