I like it when games are fully voiced, and I refuse to skip dialogue. If you've got some dumb self-indulgent monologuing then I want to hear the whole stupid thing, lay it on me.

Just played the first hour or so but this game is doing all the right CRPG things so far. I also love my custom squad and can't wait to get into wacky capers with them.

The game seems quite a bit more forgiving than D:OS2, at least in the beginning. Enemies seem a little less mean about focusing down a single member of your squad. Haven't had to replay any encounters except the one with Irv clones because you can start in a really terrible position.

Explosives seem OP as heck in this game. One of my MCs took Explodomaniac with the quirk that gives you more explosive/fire damage, and she's annihilating 2-3 dudes at a time with each grenade toss. That big tough machine in the garage, gone in one rocket. The downside of the quirk where you set yourself on fire isn't really a big deal when Explosive specialization also increases your fire resistance.

Should I not try to visit some of these random places out on the overworld before progressing the main plot in Denver? Some of these random encounters seem really hard for the things they're surrounded by.

Did I step over a quest flag or something? I was doing the storyline where Gideon Reyes from Broadmoor Heights wants you to investigate the smuggling operation at the Bizarre, but after helping the Monster Army there and doing all the quests, there's no option to speak to anyone about the smuggling. And now the original quest is saying to go talk to Gideon like when I first got the quest.

All right, now I'm just confused. I looked up a guide for Unwelcome Guests, and according to that there's a conversation that's supposed to initiate when I go near the bridge after getting the Entrance Pass. But there's no NPC nearby, and the bridge only says it has to be lowered from the other side. There's a door off to the left from the bridge where the wolf is patrolling, but that's boarded up and inaccessible. I've already cleared out the Warrens and there are no enemies left there. Am I missing something?

Then maybe you do need to talk to Gideon again. The bridge should be lowered.

Yeah, so what happened is that Broadmoor Heights apparently reset as if I had never been there. When I went back the map was uncovered, I had talked to none of the NPCs and all the chests were lootable again. I had to talk to Gideon again to progress the quest and sure enough, the bridge was down the next time I went to the Bizarre.

I seem to be having a problem where quest flags consistently reset. The guy who shows up at Ranger HQ and asks you to kill the synth in Colorado Springs appeared again when I went back to the base and told me to do the whole thing over again. My quest log is still telling me that Perla wants to talk about retrieving a missing girl even though she is very much dead. Very strange.

My plot flags for a lot of quests are continually messed up. Perla still really wants to meet me at Ranger HQ despite her being dead for about the last 20 hours and Sugarplum Mary suggests Santa really loves cookies, despite him also being dead.

It's weird to hear that the Monster Bizarre + Payasos were a backer thing because the game would be so short without them. I spent the first 10 hours trucking between the Bizarre and Colorado Springs and initially thought the game would be massive, but when you get to the actual story missions they're really quite lean. I think I wrapped up the entire Denver plotline in under 2 hours.

I'm annoyed that Lucia Wesson turned on me in the end. I thought bringing her along to shoot all her friends in the face for the past 30 hours would have toughened her up a bit.

Finished the game this morning. Ending slides:

- Sided with Angela Deth
- Killed all the Koopa Kids, then handed Patriarch off to the Wastelander mob
- 100 Families rebelled
- Rangers stayed in Colorado
- Killed all the Gippers
- Established the Machine Commune
- Helped the Monster Army
- Kwon deserted, Pizepi went back to the AZ Rangers, Lucia dead

Overall I enjoyed this game. The combat was fun and tactical without being especially difficult and the story was just engaging enough. I was pleasantly surprised that the main campaign was remarkably lean, I'd say I beat it in well under 50 hours of game time. I don't think I would have made it through if it were some 100-hour monstrosity. I think there were some negatives, mainly in the sloppiness of quest flags and writing. The humor... did not land with me, repeatedly, and the companions with the exception of Lucia Wesson all felt underwritten. I also thought the various speech and skill checks were kind of pointless, since in a squad of 6 it was easy to get all of them and so there wasn't a real sense of reactivity. I would have preferred to manage a smaller squad with a greater focus on unique characters. With the quest flow being what it is, you're likely going to be stuck with Kwon and Lucia for the first 20 hours before you even get to recruit anybody else.

Really good deal for a Gamepass game, lacks the cohesion of a true classic like D:OS2, hoping for a definitive edition later on down the line.

Armor mods are really important for survivability if you're not already outfitting your entire party with them. A squad member can get 2x or 3x their base AC from mods in this game.

The humor in this game really didn't land with me. The only kind of funny thing was the Gippers, and even then it's two servings of actual joke stretched across 8 different scenes. I felt like the game couldn't decide whether it wanted to be satirical or just goofy and split the difference to mostly unsatisfying results.

Maybe not everybody feels this way, but I liked Larian's writing in D:OS2 because despite the absurdity of the encounters you often found yourself in, the characters themselves crucially played it 100% straight. Marrying off a slug queen, scolding a dog in the futility of existence, and owning a skeleton so hard with your ascerbic wit that he disintegrates before your eyes were all very funny to me. The Borderlands-esque humor here, not so much.

Wasteland 3's writing is um, very uneven. They have one good joke with the Gippers and the rest is just as bad as any Bethesda game.
