Yes, except that it's a Panther, not a Wolfhound. They look pretty similar but that has jump jets in its legs and no rear-firing laser.

It's just bristling with heavy weapons and the artist drew it firing just one of it's weedliest guns with absolutely no sense of impact or energy. Never change, Battletech artists.

I think it should be said, at least with most of the macross mech designs they copied, that they were considered poo poo mecha in the macross universe. So Battletech made them better I wonder if that argument was considered by a real lawyer?

It's been a while since I watched Macross, but everything besides Veritechs seemed to exist exclusively for the purpose of being destroyed en masse by them.

They're basically ablative armor that march out onto the deck of the SDF and soak up missiles and lasers that would have otherwise hit it.

The Robotech RPG gave em pretty decent stats, they still weren't Veritechs but they were a viable option. https://thetrove.net/Books/Robotech/Robotech%201ed/Robotech%20-%20Book%2008%20-%20Strike%20Force%20-%20PAL563P.pdf

You can tell because two of the lasers are pointed backwards to The cardboard token from the 4th edition box is the coolest the Quickdraw has ever looked (and even it fucks up and mounts the two rear lasers forward because those rear-mounted lasers just don't make any sense). Edit: Those tokens made a lot of really garbage 'Mechs look surprisingly cool. This is the coolest the Panther and Vindicator have ever looked. I'd have to say this is the iconic Grasshopper for me, too. It's just weird and alien and flexible in a way 'Mechs don't normally get depicted and I'd say it's part of the reason the Grasshopper's one of my favorite 'Mechs to this day. drat, those cutouts are actually some of the best Battletech art I've seen. Half those light mechs usually look like a regular guy with a sledge hammer could win in a fight with them.

They do make the Vindi look cool, which imo is missing the point of the mech.

The 4th ed standee art communicates everything you need to know about the Vindicator, though. It's slow (you can tell, because it's bulky), easy to use (because it's got only the one really big gun), and it's designed to get shot at (you can tell, because it's bulky). Likewise the Clint. You know the Clint is a trash mook because they gave it stormtrooper face but it's not as bulky as the Vindicator so it's probably less ok to let it get shot. Edit: and the 4th Ed Awesome is the Platonic Ideal Awesome that every other Awesome aspires to be. PoptartsNinja fucked around with this message at 19:49 on Sep 12, 2020 |

It’s like - they just have a slight dip in their hips and they suddenly look dynamic. They def look cool but it lacks the charm of bulky and awkward 80’s robots.
