Side note re: the YV - I really liked that they were from outside of the galaxy and didn't have the Force, because it made the Force a galaxy-specific phenomenon rather than a universal one, which added a little bit of sly verisimilitude to the "a galaxy far, far away" bit that implies it's OUR universe too.

At least until it turned out that they weren't and they secretly did.

The Sun Crusher.

Ok, you've built starship with an invincible hull. Do you know what isn't invincible?

Everything that isn't the hull, including the pilot.

It isn't even particularly maneuverable, just ram it with something big, fast, and with enough mass to survive the impact. Like a Star Destroyer. Or, better yet? Play it safe. Park an interdictor on the edge of the star system outside of Supernova radius and just evade it until it runs out of fuel. What's the Sun Crusher going to do against a capitol ship? Nothing. Just trap it in a gravity well, it can only carry so much space gasoline.

Pity the keen tactical mind of Admiral "Retconned to have Brain Damage" Daala didn't think to try any of that. She was too busy ramming her Star Destroyers into things that weren't the Sun Crusher (like black holes, each other, and planets). :v:

She's shown to be more competent than her "slept her way to the top" implication would have you think.

Admiral Daala has personally crashed every type of Star Destroyer that existed at the time into something.

She crashed a Super Star Destroyer into a planet.

That's only a hair worse than Quattro Bajeena and Jamitov Hymen.

Gundam character names (and Tomino's character names in general) nearly all belong in this thread. Tomino's are here for good reason, and now 'weird character names' is a Gundam tradition.

Lmfao this loving rules.

Yoshiyuki Tomino rules. He was staunchly anti-war but told war stories at least in part because he was trying to come to terms with how the parents of his generation could have fought in World War II.

quote:

"We're basically stupid," [Tomino] said, referencing how war continues to repeat itself. "Yet what keeps our sanity in the midst of it all is not religion, justice, patriotism, or anything like that. I think that we're drawn to the perspective of the little people who are caught up in the conflict, and we see ourselves in them. When humanity is unable to see the effects they have on the little people, they tend to commit terrible mistakes."

[...]

"We, who were educated in democracy after the war, did not respect our elders. We berated them: 'Those were the guys who made the mistakes. Why did they participate in such an idiotic war?' The people who suffered in the war spoke little of their suffering, and because we received no retaliation we were free to run our mouths. But we were merely ignorant of their suffering. That's why I feel like we have to make amends, to tell them that they, too, went through terrible things."

He hated that his shows got turned into toy commercials and so he went out of his way to design the Zeta (and especially the Double Zeta) Gundams in a way that would be as hard as possible for Bandai to make model kits out of. They did anyway, but it turned into a game of one-upsmanship where each new series he'd try to make at least one robot that would be a huge pain in the rear end to make a kit out of.

Which culminated in G-Self having a different pair of pants it could put on in every single episode (and which changed its colors every time it put on a new set of gear so Bandai would have to make separate models for all of the variants--which Bandai has surprisingly not done!)

Recongista in G also featured a space colony growing weed which nobody at the producer level caught. :haw:
