We need more women in STEM, and by that, I mean skateboarding, television, esports, and magic.
Has anybody heard of this Korean band (musician?) called park bird? I love their extremely chill vibes ("Growing Older" is my favorite song on that link), but I can't find literally anything about them online.

had this song on play a bit today and if I'm hearing right it's in Eb lydian which is loving wild for a pop song. Kpop is progressing quickly into doing way more interesting things musically while keeping the song structure simple and catchy.

According to twitter translators, Nayeon said on vlive+ chat that it isn't for a repackage, just a "gift for Once" also she doesn't think it will be released digitally but they could do it if people like it lol

They've mentioned before that they were given a title track before I Can't Stop Me that they ended up not using. I wonder if that's what this is.

I don't know if anyone here cares about music theory in Kpop but I made a video explaining what makes Twice's new song sound so cool if you're interested. It's only 9:30 too.

It's probably a good job they were strict on the mask thing for MAMA and had people wait in cars, because chung ha tested positive for covid and sana from twice has had contact with her recently so now twice are being tested and I guess if anyone comes back positive then everyone that was there last night also needs to be tested/isolate? year end shows starting to seem like a bad idea

Yeah, BigHit already just cancelled the offline portion of their New Year concert and if the year-end Gayos are smart they'll do the same.

Sounds like TWICE and their managers all tested negative, and Sana will be going into quarantine til the 18th while the other girls continue their schedules.

I'm amazed we haven't had way more confirmed cases of covid for idols this year tbh. I won't be surprised if more start getting positive test results after all of the year end shows. The broadcasting companies seem to be doing much more to keep idols from coming in contact with one another unless needed (like for the year end collabs etc), at least.

A whooooole lotta girl groups are waiting on tests r/n tho either from having members who are friends with Chungha or simply going to the same salon as her. Hope they all test negative.

There's been a huge lapse in my listening to k-pop. I was pretty big on Baby Vox in my early teens back in the late 90s/early 2000s and haven't listened to any k-pop since. I recently discovered G-Idle after really liking a couple tracks from K/DA that features two members from the group. I'm kinda obsessed with G-Idle now. I was told I'd like Blackpink too since I'm digging G-Idle. Any other recommendations?

[edit] For reference, I'm really vibing to this track on repeat atm:

Saw that on their twitter! Excited. The translated tweet said "new song after 5 months" so I guess maybe it's a single. As an aside, I just watched a video of Miyeon doing this masked signer variety show thing and she sounds so different compared to her parts in every G-Idle track. Hope they showcase more of her vocal range in the new stuff. And Yuqi too, I love her voice :allears:

She has one of the best voices in Kpop no doubt. She can support her voice across the full range, which is not easy or common in pop music as a whole. Her cover of Shallow is really great (though I wish we had a full acoustic version like the beginning of the video).

They're all so talented and have some great songs (Playing With Fire, Forever Young, As if it's Your Last, Kill This Love, Lovesick Girls are my favorites) but their company and writer/producer are definitely holding them back. They're giving them boring and predictable material and mostly sticking to the strictest formula of any major kpop group. I say "holding them back" despite their meteoric international success obviously.

Putting a concept teaser out for a song everyone's heard seems pointless, I just want it to be released already. Would be curious to know if they filmed all of this after Nayeon said there were no plans to release it or if they actually always had planned it and it is actually going to be part of a repackage

I really like As If It's Your Last even tho it's a kind of a weird, disjointed song. The rap section sounds like it's from a completely other song.

But it has that YG songwriting flavor to it, it might as well be a 2ne1 or Big Bang song with a few tweaks. Like, I can hear Taeyang singing the chorus in my head. Teddy Park is a good songwriter and I love some of his songs, but the way YG have relied so heavily on the same songwriter for all their big group singles for more than a decade is kind of boring.

E. I did a youtube search for "big bang without seungri" and it delivered lmao

Burying all the trauma from past nights
Burying my anger in the past

The thing that makes me negative towards them is their fandom’s attitude on social media. I have no opinion on their music but I cannot stand how they insist that their members are the only “it girls” that can exist to the point of slander against others who might be considered reaching that arbitrary status. This is, I admit, a very shallow reason to not like a group but their fandom really rub me the wrong way towards the group by association.

Yeah, I get what you're saying and I agree. If there's anything that kills my interest in kpop it's obnoxious fandom behavior. When I was more active on twitter and followed some kpop accounts I felt like people were just fighting over stupid poo poo all the time. The obsession with view counts and music show wins creates such a bad environment, it really just pits fandoms against each other.
