I think I’ve figured out Aespa. They’re a reverse Hatsune Miku. The virtual members do the singing and the live members perform on stage, cause they never get to actually sing https://youtu.be/Y6sfNV51ae0 They’ve used full lip sync or pre-recorded live vocals like this every time they did Black Mamba live, and now they’ve put out multiple “performance stage” videos with prerecorded tracks. They even have the luxury of doing multiple takes because of Covid anyways, so it’s not like they can’t still protect their perfect image if there is a mistake. Just let them sing SM, drat. Yeah they clearly have great voices going by the prerecorded live audio, and this song doesn’t have any demanding choreo that would interfere with the singing either. So weird, even more so coming from SM who have such a reputation for great vocalists.

I Burn had 159k sales on Gaon for January which makes it their best selling and the 3rd best Cube album sales of all time (and will certainly get 8k more for #1). It's never really bothered me if a group is singing live or not but with Weeekly I really like that there's so much footage of them singing live that there's no real question of them being capable singers, except maybe Zoa but she's still a child so that's fine. I think JYP have learned that lesson given how insanely capable Itzy are all around. Lip syncing is a trend that comes and goes in kpop, and I was hoping to see it go away again as we move into the 4th gen, but with so many groups being dance focused these days I have a feeling it'll be sticking around a while longer. That said it's def weird SM hasn't had aespa do any live singing yet. Usually for music shows they just do the first week lip syncing, then sing live the week after, but Black Mamba was lip synced for the whole promo period from what I've seen. It's weird they wouldn't have the girls do any live performances for Forever, but SM's in house The Stage/The Performance stuff has all been mostly lip synced anyway so I was kind of expecting it. It's a shame tho b/c those girls have amazing voices. Hoping we get some live singing out of them whenever they promote another song. They've done some live singing on diff radio shows if you really do want to hear them tho.

The worst I’ve seen was the Everglow US tour where the mics were either really low or just off entirely with the full studio track playing. To the girls credit, they still sang on stage.

I'd prefer if music shows were all live, or if more groups sang live at least-- even with a backing track, I don't care as long as I can hear their voices. From a production standpoint tho, everyone just lip syncing these days probably makes poo poo way easier. But when concerts are done mostly lip synced it's kind of like ... rly fam? People paid for this poo poo lmao. Doing a few tracks lip synced because either the choreo is too intense, or to save their voices for a later song, no big deal. But a whole rear end concert being lip synced, or the voices being drowned out entirely by the backing track, is just a drat shame.

Me and an army friend went to see BTS at the second date of their Wembley shows in 2019. It was a cool experience even though we had really, really bad seats. But there was a fair bit of lipsyncing in some songs which bothered me a bit? I think one of the solo performances was completely lipsynced, or the mic was just turned so low that you couldn't hear the live vocals :/ To be fair, it was mostly in songs that had a fast choreo and it was a 2 hour show, so I can see why you can't go all out on both singing and dancing.

I fell in love with her in Running Girls, so I am hella looking forward to her stint on How Do You Play?! Also  whew lad only two tracks.
