Bottom Liner posted:Lot of rumors going on about RV contracts, with Seulgi and Irene confirmed earlier this year but no word on the others. Their live for the release had a weird vibe, especially for a 10 year anniversary. Don't want them to be stuck where they're unhappy of course, but drat I hope they stay together. The marketing for this comeback has been lackluster, and Joy openly came out and complained about SM ignoring their suggestions. I get the feeling SM would rather put RV in the eternal freezer next to GG, and focus on a new group instead.

You just know those naevis were some senior manager's brainchild, that they can't let go. "We'll have virtual representations of the idols, it's gonna be genius. They don't age, and if companies want to advertise with them, we can bypass the artists and get all the cash. Profit!"

Honestly didn't finish listening to the song. I've heard there's an excessive amount of auto-tune on the album.

Koramei posted:It's more than a specific genre but I wouldn't say it encompasses all Korean music. K-pop in the west is idol pop in Korea. There's other groups like Jannabi that are very popular but wouldn't fall under the idol umbrella. How does the average korean woman view the portrayal of women in K-pop?

Koramei posted:In terms of stuff that kind of tarnishes the whole thing in perceptions in the west, strict expectations on appearance isn't at all limited to idols so that's just not an issue that registers from my experience. Yeah, that's a good point. I've started reading "Flawless" about the korean beauty industry, and in the first chapters the author talks about how good looks can make or break a job interview, in addition to good appearance being linked to positive character traits. In that context the focus on visuals in K-Pop gets a different meaning. busalover fucked around with this message at 12:32 on Jul 28, 2024 |

I never watched the Coachella performance. Was it really that bad? I figured I've heard lovely live vocals before, so I'm sitting this one out.

The chorus is so loud, it's annoying. The synth is too boomy maybe, or it clashes with the frequency range of the voices idk. Ergh.

That's probably the gayest Kpop track so far this year.

I keep saying "Where the heck is Saki?" at random times during the day. Also the live versions are better, because they ham it up more. Don't miss out on "Chasing Lightning" and its line about greek yogurt. Makes me lol every time

One thing I learned from K-Pop is that Koreans are super-petty when it comes to business.

Isn't NMIXX that band with the horrible debut? I think I immediately put them on ignore, but that song is great.

I got curious if "Love is lonely" was written by a swede, and turns out I was right. Her name is Fanny Hultman and she wrote for Ellie Goulding and others. There's even a spotify playlist if you google her name. Another good swedish-korean B-side is "Body Talk" by Red Velvet. Idk I think it's the combo of synths with a sentimental classic song structure.

Sad. The production level of their mini-albums set a new high water-mark in K-Pop, at least to me.

The "chorus" (?) it builds up to is fine, still like her voice. Also that chorus gives me strong grunge flashbacks. Idk what APT. is a reference to, a play on words?

I'm really liking the Irene "debut" Like a Flower. At first I was like "sounds meh and shallow", but now I think it's kind of relaxed and understated. The choreo is a bit stiff in the MV though. Her backup dancers are good, but she's too mechanical in her movements. I'd put it in the top ten for this year.
