Hello, I am trying to build a piano slide drawer underneath a Jarvis Standing Desk (60 x 30), however there is a catch. Because knee space is at a premium with a keyboard, I'm trying to do this in the thinnest way possible. Here is the desk: https://www.fully.com/standing-desks/jarvis/jarvis-designer-ply.html

My idea is to have the piano retract halfway behind the desk, so when its not in use there is less chance my knees will reach that far back. But when I pull it out to play, I would rather mount the drawer without a table top to rest the piano on, since thats another potential inch lost. I was thinking something like heavy duty drawer slides, but with some kind of metal bracket going across instead of a drawer? But I imagine it will bend unless its an L shaped bracket, maybe hugging the front and back of the keyboard. I just don't know the hardware to use for something like this. Here are some slides: https://www.amazon.com/Extension-Be...ls%2C143&sr=1-4

But how do I mount these drawer slides so they are hanging from the bottom of the desk, since I won't have any sides to screw into? I would appreciate any help!

Just thinking quickly here, but you could just do something like this, you just need to find slides with a long reach:

I realized after I drew it that I'm not really addressing your issue of losing space on the drawer, but at least mounting the hardware should be fairly straight forward.

That said, it'd be a hell of a lot easier to just use something like keyboard tray mounting hardware, something like this. If you could find some that would come out far enough but sit 16-18 inches back from the front when closed, I wouldn't worry about banging your knees on wood then:

Thank you sir, thats more of less the approach I need to take - I am going to purchase a standing desk frame to tackle the height problem, where I can raise and lower it a few inches when playing. I do one have more question though:

In order to save knee space when the piano is not in use, I want the piano to recess all the way to the back of the desk when not in use. I want to know if its possible to cut the drawer slides to make this work.

For example, my piano is 12 inches and my desk is 24 inches. If I had 24 inch full extension rails and mounted the piano to the back of them, 12 inches of metal railing would stick out awkwardly when fully extended. Can they be cut so that the actual extended rails match the length of the piano, allowing it to slide the full 24 inches + the uncut 12 inches attached to the piano?

I am looking at these rails: https://www.mcmaster.com/6603A47/

They are expensive so I don't want to ruin them if this idea doesn't work..
