Right? I am in Houston and the dissonance between the rosy NHS model and the European model are disconcerting. Galveston evacuation already hosed, wonder if they are trying to get the islanders north before mentioning that Houston about to be hosed.

My brother, who works at the Houston port, just texted me and says he’s getting out of dodge tonight. Seems the port administration are acting like (or believe anyway) the Euro model rather than the NHS forecast.

The Houston suburban water channels once again are all going to efficiently drain downstream before the rainfall is over. Every time like clockwork and it's going to get worse. The water needs to be held at higher ground longer or the flooding will continue to occur. Water draining from the streets in the burbs hits hundreds of retention ponds which feed at a static maximum rate into the bayous. Been a problem for twenty years and the solution is likely related to reducing the load on the bayous with more managed retention pond infrastructure. To give you an idea of elevation it can be like 115' 70 miles from the coast.
