I am very confused as to why you think that surrendering is treason or that it's wrong. Their choices, at this point are: 1. Suicide by fighting chorus 2. Suicide by fighting fatebinder (taken, idiotic) 3. Conscription into chorus with a high chance of dying. Why would you ever pick 1 or 2 if you are not a complete moron?

(it's unclear how many people an insignia can cover at once too). As for chorus being slated for death, they have no way of knowing that so it doesn't count. From their perspective it's just a long odds gamble to survive and maybe in a few generations try to rebuild stalwart. As of right now, they are functionally defeated and have exactly 0 winning plays, just '"maybe try to build the long odds" plays.
