I am very confused as to why you think that surrendering is treason or that it's wrong. Their choices, at this point are: 1. Suicide by fighting chorus 2. Suicide by fighting fatebinder (taken, idiotic) 3. Conscription into chorus with a high chance of dying. Why would you ever pick 1 or 2 if you are not a complete moron?

From their perspective it's just a long odds gamble to survive and maybe in a few generations try to rebuild stalwart. As of right now, they are functionally defeated and have exactly 0 winning plays, just '"maybe try to build the long odds" plays.
