I think you know what they mean. Because most if not all of the people you interact with online you'll probably never call up, write a letter or socialize with in person.
you'll probably never call up or write a letter to someone you exchange a few friendly words with in line for something or share a moment of "what the gently caress is that guy's problem," are those interactions also not "real?"

Yeah I think you nailed why I was particularly offended by the CSPAM thread. Our governor recently said "hey, the CDC said students can be 3 feet apart safely so schools are now allowed to take in more kids." The thread was aghast.

I'm head of the PTA for my kids' elementary school, so when in-person schooling opened up for 6 feet distancing I took a tour. I watched kids line up and enter class, attend class, run around on the playground. They were in lockstep with 6 feet distancing. So I told parents, "yeah you can trust this school, they get it."

I toured again after the three-foot modification this week. I observed ~100 hyperactive five-year-olds running around a playground. Only once in the 5 minutes I watched did anyone get within three feet of anyone else, and a yard duty intervened so fast it was like, "wow!" So now I get to inform more parents that yes it is safe for them to let their kids go back to school 2 days a week and experience some kind of normalcy for the first time in over a year. Parents cried, I almost cried, it was amazing to help do something that spreads so much joy.

To see people on SA knee-jerk clique their tongues and assume the governor, who shut down schools the week that the first governors started doing that, would just arbitrarily open schools up because lives are less important than the economy... that just was kind of mind-bending and made me feel sorry for the prisons people seem to put their minds and emotions in.
3 feet/6 feet is not a magical rule that stops spread, even with masks (as in the standard surgical/cloth ones most people wear, which do provide some protection but still allow room for air to escape through improper seals). if they are still doing indoor classes, distance doesn't do much against aerosolized spread of covid indoors. maybe your school district is more upper-class and has adequate ventilation for all of their classrooms and inside areas, (though i admit my knowledge on if that is even enough is limited) and given how small the percentage points for the risks being taken with inadequate restrictions seem, you do stand a chance of hopefully having this turn out okay and go through the year with no infections. applied to a state's entire population, though, a decision to open schools is still going to result in increased infections, hospitalizations, and deaths, and they're going to be concentrated in areas that are either not able to enforce restrictions or have people on the board/within the community/local govt/etc pressuring them not to take precautions.
call me out if this post is stupid or has any misinfo, i'm not functioning very well rn and admittedly i haven't followed poo poo closely for a few months

Essentially; "Shut up and gently caress off your taking away from The Real Struggle tm" can come in two flavours. 1) is a genuine belief that people talking about leftist things are inherently going to be co-opted and used and should stop trying to live inside of anything or make money off of it. I'm personally sympathetic to that PoV even if I don't personally hold it. 2) is the belief that talking isn't action, that you aren't "really committed" unless you are doing everything the way the person in question is doing things and your being fake about your principles.

The latter also dovetails nicely with people who believe that socialists must live only on very low wages in order to be valid/ have a point.

Fair point. Is this explanation okay?
it is, thank you!
2 without the hyperbole is basically where i'm coming from: talking on the internet can be praxis, depending on what you're doing, but it can also lead to you feeling like you've engaged in praxis from sharing a meme or writing a vent tweet or whatever. admittedly, i don't know poo poo about whoever this guy is, maybe he's straight vanguard, but i feel comfortable guessing somebody who is fine with exploiting cheap labor to manufacture their merchandise keeps their activism to violent rhetoric that makes them feel better without accomplishing anything else
