During group watches you are perfectly affable. Your gimmick posting and your constant push towards horniness or referral to sex and sexuality in your posting is viewed as creepy by your peers. You are the strange person at the horror convention that makes everyone feel uncomfortable. You are giving a bad name to Spook-a-doodles and the horror thread.

Re-read your posts before you hit send. Ask yourself if the sex joke is worth it. (It's not.) Ask if what you are posting is harassing another poster. If it can't meet these basic standards, then don't post it.

If you feel like these are too restrictive towards your posting, then good evening, there is no need for your posts in the horror thread, and really the rest of CineD, because I don't tolerate harassment or sexual harassment, even if it's somehow sent as a joke or a gimmick.

Yeah, it was that, plus the (foolish) thought that "Oh maybe they didn't realize their post was inappropriate". It's the repeated doubling-down and continuing where it shows that it's a bigger problem with the poster than I first assumed. And the lack of apology that seems necessary for accidentally making a peer uncomfortable.

In general, this thread is always very good about sexual references. Someone can mention they had a crush on Barbara Crampton and move on. Someone can joke that Midsommar showing off dongs is great, and then move on. Kvlt! himself has made plenty of jokes about being attracted to Michael Shannon, and then we move on. We've discussed, Shivers and The Black Room and other sexually-charged films before without offense.

It's never directed towards another poster, which should have been a bigger red flag for me to step in sooner and give out harsher punishments.

I'm not a puritan by any means. And I think what's interesting about SomethingAwful and CineD is that we are a melting pot of gay, straight, bi, trans, and queer posters, and I think that there is a healthy level of sexual discussion allowed, especially in horror, a genre that has explored sexuality in many ways, both appropriate and inappropriate. But, again, it should never be pointed at another poster, especially when they are direct and clear about being uncomfortable.

I'm mod and it's ultimately up to me to moderate; so my explaining that I assumed that peer pressure from the thread would correct Walrus is just that: an explanation for my actions, not a justification or excuse. I dropped the ball and it contributed to a creepy poster continuing to be creepy and harass another poster.

Fran's a good mod and he handled this well in the long run; it just nipped itself in the bud (by way of this modchallenge) before Walrus went any further up the punishment chain than he did.

the thing is, by all appearances, kentaro miura is not a man who thinks pedophilia is extremely cool and good; the protagonist of Berserk is a child sexual abuse survivor, and it's handled almost weirdly realistically. his assault is portrayed as a completely horrifying thing done to him by a monster and taken dead seriously, and it informs his characterization very heavily through the whole story in ways that can be summarized as "poo poo hosed him up bad."

like, berserk is dark as all hell and has some rough fuckin content in it, but very little of it is handled in ways that give me any kind of inclination that the dude's actually a bad person vs. being a good person who's writing a story about bad poo poo. and the times it does step on rakes, it... well, steps on rakes. you can see what the dude was trying to do with it, he just didn't exactly land where he wanted to.

and then that goddamn naked child manga happened, and now i'm not even sure what the gently caress to think, because it seems insane to me that the same person could write Guts' backstory and characterization and then turn around and be like "hell yeah naked children." i feel like a lot of the people defending it were kind of in a similar boat to me on this, they just decided the answer was to dig deep into his artistic influences and try to puzzle out WTF he was trying to do, as opposed to throwing it out the goddamn window because if you have to work that hard to puzzle out his intent, his intent probably doesn't fuckin' matter all that much.

is it a smart long-term investment? gently caress no. if you put all your savings in bitcoin thinking "it can only go UP UP UP" and you'll be a billionaire, without paying attention to the current price relative to trends, you're going to get hosed in record time. but if you buy a little chunk when it crashes and hang onto it, and don't expect it to make you Jeff Bezos vs. just getting an extra couple hundo out of it, you'll almost certainly be fine.

the real problem seems to be people looking at it like it's an index account when it's really closer to day trading (just easier to get into), and requires similar tactics to the latter.
