This is really good stuff. Ichikara keeps on being on top of the game as an organization. Doxing & harrassment will happen again, and I don't feel Cover handled Aloe, or other kinds of incidents well.
I'm not trying to start a Nijisanji vs Hololive-thing here, talking purely about the companies.

Korone and Marine are the best. THE BEST!
Nijisanji has had alot of problems with doxxing also so its not really like they're trying to own Cover or anything, this is like the bare minimum that a vtuber agency should do for their members so its good that someone is trying to protect their talent

It was much easier to be disdainful a year or two ago when the majority of vtuber content was that super slick over produced prerecorded 5-10 minute skits with the kind of inscrutable comedy you see on a Japanese variety show. Like I watched a fair amount of Kizuna Ai back then and still watch pretty much everything Kaguya Luna and Himehina put out, but what people are doing now is an extremely different scene than it was not too long ago.

homeless snail

When people say vtubers arent playing characters i just point to Pekora, because if thats not an act then she moves from comedy to tragedy

homeless snail
Mar 14, 2007

Nah, I think they will do at least as well as Hololive/Niji ID, because presumably they're still going to prefer bilingual people and there will be enough overlap between English/Japanese viewers to carve out a tiny Ayunda Risu sized niche

Thinking about how Nijisanji started an Indian branch and after like 4 months turned it into Nijisanji EN because they had far more English/Japanese viewers than Indian ones

Well, then they’d have to find native English speakers who also speak Japanese at an acceptable enough level to interact with Japanese viewers, if not enough to collaborate with JP or ID. I can’t imagine there’s many of those.
I think you are dramatically underestimating how many nerds/nisei out there that want to be professional anime girls. A lot of the IDs aren't totally fluent, either, and Coco's Japanese when she started was pretty broken

also looking at various vtuber's youtube catalogues. lots of them have long period of no videos, like pekora has 1 or 2 2 month gaps in uploads.

do they get demonetized or something?
Cover massively hosed up and then panicked when Mio got hit by a copyright strike, so they hid/deleted all the videos older than like a month ago and are slowly bringing them back as they make sure things are right again

Hanayori Girls Dorm is already a pretty low stress vtuber environment, Nonono only streamed like once every week or two, so she must be feeling pretty rough. Sending spirit bomb energy to Nonono rn

Thats one thing that I think is really cool about vtubers though, is that I think a fair number of them could be real idols but have something in their life thats disqualifying, and v gives them an opportunity to embody characters and entertain people like they might not be able to otherwise. Thinking about Ironmouse who is I think is pretty much bedridden irl but is a super energetic vtuber

Mar 14, 2007

I feel bad for the holoIDs, cause they just kind of just unceremoniously got dropped on youtube without the full weight of the Hololive marketing machine behind it. Ayunda Risu debuted like 6 months ago and only has 126k subs + cantaloupe's debut vid already has like 3x as many viewers as her's (go sub to Risu She's Good)

So far I think Holofive week was more hype than Holomyth day, but its a very good day to be a vtuber watcher

I do wish they had taken some improv courses or something to get some "making stuff up quickly on the spot" chops, but it's getting better as they go along. If I were them, I would have developed and memorized my own backstory a lot more to bring up if I was blanking on conversation.

It's weird how it seems like they never spoke before this to kind of develop a rapport. It's like they're just tossed right into it cold.

Calliope definitely sounds like a normal American anime fangirl. I do like that she has a deeper, more natural speaking voice. I'm also getting to like Kiara now that she's not repeating everything in Japanese. The "mili" thing was pretty funny.
I think they've probably spoken a decent amount, but not in character which makes this RP stream have kind of an awkward first D&D sesh vibe as everyone goes around the table and introduces their character. This second half where they've loosened up a bit and its not as in character is a lot more fun
