I don't know if it's still true, but I remember Chris Kluwe saying the market incentives are all hosed up for punters. New punters start at league minimum and the bargaining agreement forced pay increases for veterans. Only rare punters can consistently outperform rookies enough to justify the cap hit. Like a 7-year veteran gets ~$900,000 minimum and the rookie contract is $610,000. Veteran ain't kicking 50% further than the rookie and is probably making more than minimum if they've been around 7 years. League minimum is $610,000. Morstead's contract is like $4.25 million.
