Wowzers, and the lesser 93 compilation goes for around AUD$530 on Discogs.

I've been in a real Fields of the Nephilim/Rubicon/Last Rites mood, but also can't stop listening to Trentemøller - Complicated. I love Jehnny Beth, and it reminds me of a brief window of time in 2020 that didn't suck and of someone I miss a lot.

Yeah Trentemøller. That whole Fixion album is pretty good. I've seen it criticised as being basically a giant tribute to Joy Division, but I don't find that to be a bad thing? And "Miss You" is pretty top-tier melancholic downtempo electronica.

In a similar vein is Lorn, although while Anvil and Acid Rain are amazing tracks, and there are a few other good ones, the rest is maybe a bit up itself?

Fixion is pretty good, agreed. Reading up on it a while back, he was pretty open about what he was trying to achieve with the record, and he wore his influences on his sleeve. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Yet to check out Lorn so thanks for the heads up.

Ist Ist seem to worship JD a fair bit too, but seem a little more upbeat.

As I was typing, this came on at the pub (no local covid outbreaks in Melbourne atm, knock on wood).

More :filez: possibly, and this is more goth-adjacent (via psychobilly and the Cramps), but elsewhere on the internet I was reminded of this ancient collection of songs mentioned in interviews with Lux and Ivy. Some of these mp3s are garbo quality (128/96 kbps) but they're still a goldmine of obscure and weird old music.

I finally got it. It sounds great! And it's nice to have something so weirdly obscure for how much I like the music

I think it may also be available on JP Amazon but I don't know if they ship to the US or wherever. The reviews on there seem to be (through translation) complaining about the mastering on this version and that the tracklist isn't the same order as Esoderic Mania, which is dumb to me. The mastering sounds fine to me. This one also includes a bunch of live performances that EM doesn't, and also it isn't 300 loving dollars for a CD that's been out of print since 1992 or whatever

They're relatively new, the last decade? The s/t is from 2014-2015. Enjoy!

Saw so many shows at the Metro. Caught them in 92 and it's my favorite concert I've been to. Saw them again in late 2019 and it was probably one of the worst I've been to. Mostly because the venue has the worlds shittiest sound system and it was two hours of blown speaker noise. :( But they still did their best looking old like the rest of us.

I remember going to see The Crow with all our goth/rivet head friends and this popped into the best scene and we poo poo ourselves.

My buddy manages it... They basically do goth night whenever they don't have another monthly running. And since there have been no monthlys running and lots of the talent that organized them is off doing other stuff, they are just focusing on goth night for now. Bare minimum, they have 3-4 nights a month for goth/industrial-specific poo poo, so it's not 100% gone. They just needed money to fund renovations, really

I've got a pocket full of cheese🧀, and a garden full of trees🌴.

A question for you goth people. It may sound disrespectful, but it isn't really.

Whilst I have always sort of enjoyed the music and style etc. I could never buy into "the darkness that eats my soul! Nobody understands me but Robert Smith and Morrissey!" posturing.

So what I am asking is: just like there are joke metal bands that sing in a metal style but the songs are about being a pirate, or fighting dinosaurs in spece etc, are there any bands that sound like Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, Siouxie and the Banshees etc. but sing songs about puppies rainbows and princesses etc. Because that sort of silliness is entirely my jam.
