And Hager was always the definition of catchphrase over so it makes sense he's the on person who got his old chant. Everyone else just gets natural reactions because people are excited. Even Miro Day kind of fits into that. It has an edge to it just because all the stories were that WWE didn't want it to be over and really screwed around with Miro. But the cool relationship between AEW and its fans means that crowds just act natural. It's not the bizarre and sometimes hostile attitude WWE takes with the fanbase. I mean, it's not even just the truly awful stuff WWE has done as a company. They even include the hostile relationship in their kayfabe. They pretty much have the audience as a character called the WWE Universe and really treat them like poo poo sometimes.

I absolutely think if Punk showed up in AEW next week people would pop and love it. I also think there is an alternative universe where Punk didn't spend the last few years losing at mma, getting into a messy fight with colt, working at a wwe adjacent job, and just generally becoming more of a curmudgeon. That version of Punk would get an earth shattering reaction. Like AEW not only brought him back to wrestling but back from the dead right there in front of the audience.

Don’t want Punk anymore. Just hearing how well the locker room gels right now, I can’t imagine that guy fitting in. I just don’t see the fit when you’re building a new brand.

You want to surround yourself with decent, good people. I just don’t see it with Punk.

Yeah, at this point I also think the chances of Punk showing up are zero to none unless there is less bad blood than I think between him and Cabana. I don't know about you but if someone told me I could work in a locker room with either Punk or Cabana I'm picking Cabana.

There are occasionally things where I feel like AEW goes too far in the other direction from WWE and the Vickie/Nyla thing is one of them. It's not bad but it could be a lot better. They shouldn't hire a bunch of writers and block every move but it also wouldn't hurt to bring in other creative experts as a resource. Someone who can help wrestler's punch up a promo they want to do. Someone who has a good sense of comedy and can help them out with planning comedy segments. Someone to tell Darby to do literally anything else with the videos he's making himself because you can't just keep doing the same thing over and over.

I'll also say I do think the first Nyla squash with Vickie as her manager was good. They had a back and forth where it was like Vicke was goading Nyla into being even more vicious and that Nyla really wanted to impress her new friend with violence. And that's a cool seed to go with, that they just bring out the worst in each other and love it. But it's not there yet.

I think that bad writers are bad.

The problem that WWE performers have with them is their writers aren’t writing to tell a story for fans.

They’re writing to appease Vince McMahon.

It’s a playground of toys where the toys are human lives.

You stick around that for about 8-10 years and yeah, you’re probably going to loop in all writers as awful, even the skilled ones.

Yeah, and I absolutely think writers telling wrestlers what they have to do is a nightmare and flat out not wrestling. Like, what WWE puts on really doesn't fit my definition of pro-wrestling because to me it's at least partially improvisational as an art form and WWE tries to remove that whenever possible. But having other creatives that the talent can lean on if they want to? It'd probably help.

edit: I also honestly agree with the post above me. AEW is in good hands and when stuff doesn't work they figure it out. My brain is just broken and going "oh but if they did this it would be even better!" is just how I engage with things I enjoy.

I doubt it because it's still open air. I don't really see how the roof would impact airflow so badly that it would be more dangerous than being outside. If it was a closed dome I could see that being a problem but not with the majority of the structure being open air. I'd be more worried about the bathrooms and other enclosed spaces within the arena.

Yeah, putting Jericho and Hager together in tags looks more like a fun way to get tag team over without always fighting another tag team. Jericho can eat losses and be fine. Especially in tags where Hager gets pinned.

If WWE was still paying good money and keeping you around to sit in catering I could see some midcard guys getting swayed by big promises. But WWE has pretty much shown their hand and they'll sign you and pay you just long enough to make sure you burned all the bridges and then drop you on your rear end. Maybe when Vince dies and HHH is in charge they can trick people again but I feel like they've shown everyone that they will gently caress you.

But also wrestler's are con artists and those are the easiest people to con.

Giving up the indies, your t-shirt shop, your creative freedom, your screen time, your side hustles, your entire reason for wanting to be a wrestler - that is, good wrestling - is not going to be as easy a sell for this generation as the last. Ricky Starks talked about his favorite WWE performer - Undertaker. Who is gone. The lost generation isn't going to entice anyone to work there. A lot of the cool charismatic people are mistreated or were mistreated then left. I can see a couple people maybe going, but giving up a job you love for 5 years of misery when they need to offer you WAY more than AEW/impact/njpw/indies given all the stuff above is not going to be the easy slam dunk. You're not going to get your Ricochets who line up to be shat upon by "the dream job" nearly as easily. People like MJF and Jungle Boy know their worth.

And rumors of stuff like not giving Keith Lee a new contract when he went to main roster so he's making low six isn't going to help either. Or the covids. Or the saudia arabian situations. Or the systemic racism, sexism, harassment...

That problem is going to keep growing too. Look at their ratings. A big portion of the next generation of wrestlers will not grow up seeing WWE as the dream.
