Was scyfy not gonna renew it? I started watching it in season 4 or 5 and the drop in quality was pretty significant from when amazon took over.

I was actually gonna watch it again, I haven't seen it in 10+ years I remember thinking it was alright but got really weird at the end? Can't remember to much about it tbh. Its no FMJ / Platoon that's all I remember. Better than The Deer Hunter but what isnt

Justice League was actually watchable on extended edition, one of the rare cases where the original is trash but EE is not. Gladiator is the last extended edition I watched and ya it was NOT worth it. Most of the scenes were just weirdly out of place, there was maybe one scene in the beginning that was a natural fit.

Tried to watch that series recently, I guess people are just really desperate to consume garbage during covid because I'm not getting it. S1 is like OK this is interesting I guess then 2 and 3 are just off the rails in a bad way

Literally nobody loves the prequels where on earth did you get that idea?

George Lucas is a loving hack and you'll never convince me otherwise ![]() @ Disney chat the only thing they care about is franchising the brand, its why they bought the rights and why most of it under their name has been very half assed. Not that this is much of a useful metric but Rise had a noticeably smaller budget than the first two and all of the sequels had significantly less budget than the seemingly comparable Avengers movies.

You know what movie didn't suck? The Green Knight. Gorgeous take on King Arthur mythology, really great art direction and acting all around. Trynna see The Northman but its not digital afaik and no theater near me is playing it. Alexander Skarsgård and Robert Eggers are so dreamy ![]()

Ya avatar actually did a really good job with the 3d iirc, granted that was like 15 years ago or however long. Looks pretty stupid but as has been said it is James Cameron so it'll be entertaining at least (probably)

Watched No Tears For The Dead the other night pretty entertaining korean action flick, unfortunately it couldn't capture the same drama that The Man From Nowhere did, but it had some pretty kickass fights. I'd recommend both if your into Korean cinema, if you only watch one definitely watch man from nowhere.

distortion park posted:continuing to watch older films I've never seen, and Heat is easily the best so far. what a film, the cast, the absolutely phenomenal location and camera work. i know it's said a lot but they really don't make films like that anymore Sure they do, just like video games its not the big publishers doing it though. Setting up a NAS with Jellyfin was the best decision. The industry had the perfect solution with old netflix and now its all fragmented and worthless and lol if u think im paying to watch ads loving hulu and whoever else does it.

indigi posted:part of Heat is that not only is it well written and well made, you've got this specific character of the spectacle of two generationally great actors going head to head in a two-hander that just can't be replicated, even by equally-talented actors and an equally-talented director. it's like Godzilla vs King Kong - you can make an amazing small studio kaiju fight movie but that isn't Godzilla, and that isn't King Kong. Heat is one of my all time favorite movies, but acting like there was never a movie like it before or sense is some boomer nostalgia take. White Heat came out in the 40s, The Departed has the generational star studded cast crime epic, its endless and if you include foreign films, which you should, then lol. "Great rear end" might very well be the best line in cinema though.

polyester concept posted:were there really that many great movies being made in the 80s or 90s compared to today, though? yeah there is absolutely more crap being released now because the barrier of entry into film making is a lot lower, but I feel like it's too easy to name a bunch of classics while ignoring the fact that there was a ton of lovely movies released back then too. survivorship bias and all that. Bias cause I was like 8 or some poo poo at the time but no? Way more good movies now its just if your sample size is exclusively netflix and big budget theatrical releases... Not so much.
