Ovi got the Conn Smyth for his career more than his performance in the playoffs back in 2018. Kuzy was arguably better.

I mean marginally maybe but Ovie still had 15 goals and was over a ppg. That was hardly some "let's just give it to the guy people know" like Crosby when he had 19pts in 2016.

About a week ago someone here mentioned that the Leafs haven't won a playoff series since 2004. I couldn't believe it but yup.

In game 4 of a 5 game series the Maple Leafs stormed back from a 3-0 defecit scoring three goals with the extra attacker to force overtime. Matthews would score early in the added frame seemingly exorcising the demons of a nearly identical collapse 7 years prior that has come to define the team's now 50 year stretch of misfortune.

Riding that seemingly impossible high with the hopes of a fanbase daring to dream lifting them skyward they turned around and lost game 5 3-0 and were eliminated.

A defenceman would have to be pretty exceptional to win the Hart again. Only seven denfencemen have ever done so, and only two in the expansion era (Orr three times and Pronger once). It would likely have to be a real down year for forwards or a season that couldn't be ignored by a defenceman like 90pts or more.

It's just not an award for defencemen. The only defenders to receive a first place vote since the lockout are Chara, Lidstrom, Niedermayer and Burns. You could make a case that perhaps Lidstrom deserved one from that list but he never got more than two first place votes.

In a league where the best defencemen are generally steady and dependable they're not likely to grab the headlines necessary to be league MVP, and the flashier defencemen just aren't effective enough to be deemed the best player in the NHL.

The Hart is just the scoring title adjusted for team composition.

Nah they've added the "highest scorer on a team considered unlikely to make the playoffs at the beginning of the year" caveat now which is why Hall won it despite being like 15pts back of McDavid and 6th in league scoring.
