Hunting in RDR2 is great, I just wish I didn’t feel obligated to only kill what I could carry. Every other game is like ‘hahaha you took out a whole herd of deer with a mini gun! Have a bunch of venison and skin.’ You don’t get to do that here. You can carry what, 2 large animal hides? And that’s if you have a pack horse with you.

Wasn't it a direct competitor of Call of Duty AND Battlefield? Respawn had some real hubris to release it right between CoD and BF. There was absolutely no way it was going to succeed releasing alongside the two biggest FPS games in the world.

Far Cry 1, 2, and even 3 to some extent felt like really experimental games. But since 3, all the numbered Far Cry games have felt very cookie cutter. And it doesn’t help that the writing is terrible.

That was the highest high the writing in FC5 ever got. Too bad to, because that one segment was a tiny glimmer of quality what the only moment it got.

Metro Exodus looks amazing on the PS5. The only problem is, the DLC is broken and won’t download. A lot of people are having this issue, but a lot of people aren’t, and there doesn’t appear to be any quick fix.

So far my experience with the adaptive triggers has been underwhelming. It's a neat gimmick that does serve to make every gun feel differently in Metro, and it's kinda cool that they can simulate trigger creep and then the clean snap when you shoot, but I can't possibly see leaving them on in a multiplayer game. You lose a few milliseconds pushing through the trigger on your first shot, and that would be a huge disadvantage in something like CoD.

So, that's my take. Single player, yes, it's cool. Multiplayer, no.

Sammus

Metro is really at its best when it's not doing the open world stuff. The other Metro games were super linear, and all the open world stuff really just serves to waste your time in between killing things. 2033 and Last Light were better.

I’m right there with you. It’s because they made punching things do zero damage outside of blood fist and brutal kills. Added to that is that where in 2016 brutal kills gave you health and ammo, only chainsaws give you ammo now.

So before you could rage at something, dump your last 3 rounds into it, punch it until it was primed for a brutal kill, tear it in half with your bare hands, then you’re off to rip and tear the next mother fucker.

Now you have to shoot until you run out of ammo, then run away from everything until you can find a weakling you can chainsaw, followed by another you can shoot just enough to set up for a brutality to regen your health (you cant punch weaklings to kill them or prime them for brutalities wtf). God help you if you clear out the trash enemies early in a big fight, because once you’re out of ammo, you’re out.

Sorry for the rant. I’m going through it again on PS5 and I want to like it so much but god drat they hosed up a really good formula that kept you right in the action and what they replaced it with doesn’t.

It did not make for fun PvP, and the PvE is debatable.

I need to find a decent, story driven FPS to play that I haven’t already beaten.

Maybe I’ll try Far Cry 4 again, but it’s hard to play when the secret ending is truly the best, and the game I actually want to play.

Edit: is there anything else like prey/doom 3? I’ve played all the dishonored games. And I’m sick to death of open worlds, which is another reason I don’t want to play far cry 4.

When I tried it yesterday, Trios mode was broken and could never find a match. Now, it's possible that's because its new and no one is playing. But it's a bad sign.

So I tried solo. Ignoring the fact that I suck at controls, it's a bad game. You run around fighting mobs and opening chests to find randomized gear that levels you up in match so that you can hit people harder, have more health, and take less damage. You can have a bad match and go into the final circle with less than a third of the numbers other players will bring. So it has the possibility of being super unbalanced based on the drops you get.

I am however impressed with the map size, and maybe if the game actually had players and didn’t constantly kick everyone from the match there would be some limited fun to be found. But right now it feels like that fun is a diamond ring and it’s been lost in one of those poo poo holes in a national park. You know the ones, just a wooden shack, a simple toilet seat, and a deep hole underneath with some chemicals in it. Can you find the diamond ring?
