Lol you still believe any of his actions will have consequences, that's cute.

the changes i find worthwhile are areas of background pixel art thats highly detailed for its resolution. a lot of it looks like "way to find the contrast options in photoshop"

For sure, I clicked through a few of those "results" posts that I was familiar with the source, and I really don't get what causes someone to spend two weeks rendering frames in "8k" only to have it look barely any better.

It's cool that the level of deepfake that the average person can make still hasn't reached the level of believability of the pirated copy of CrazyTalk I had 12 years ago.

And yeah I had to manually edit a bunch of things. Still a WIP but things are coming along nicely.

I did fall asleep reading a particularly erotic chapter
in my grandmother's journal.

She wrote very detailed descriptions of her experiences...
The fear over deep fakes isn't that we'd be flooded with deep fakes, it's that if there were to be an actual damning smoking gun video to turn up, the person in question could just claim it to be a deep fake and that people would believe them.

I think the deepfake tech is just getting good enough right now. Like within the last few months or so.

Also if someone were to make a political deepfake, you can rather easily employ another neural algorithm to that to determine it's fake with good certainty.

People already do that anyways. This obsession with the ability to edit video and audio is largely just a boondoggle people are fixating on to avoid confronting the fact that we live in a post-truth world, same with the people really into Russian interference or Qanon.

Bots making videos to their bot publishers, to be consumed by bot verifiers before being sent off to bot paralegals as evidence in the bot lawyer's class action, overseen by a bot judge and deliberated by a jury of bots, the payment out of which would be entirely automated by a tech support phone menu.

2025, massive scandal rocks the world. Debates rage for weeks wither it's fake or not. Biggest story on the internet ever. Many companies collapse as a result.

literally no one who is not a bot sees it or is involved, as they are to busy watching the latest version of cat memes to notice.

The computers have taken over, but as they were built in our image, they just continue to do the exact same stupid stuff that the people running the world do now, so no one notices or cares.

Like animal farm but with AI and stupid.

Yeah, I saw an interview with some analysts where they basically said that lying or taking things out of context are just as effective as deep fakes without any effort.

I've seen shit you people wouldn't believe. Cop cars on fire off the shoulder of I-94. I watched search lights glitter in the dark near the Ambassador Bridge. All those moments will be lost in time, like piss in the drain. Time to retch.
For instance Trump can say Biden keeps using the term "super predator" without any sound clips because we've heard other people say it in reference to the crime bill he was a part of. That's an instance where a deep fake would be appropriate but isn't necessary.

One side will willingly believe any lie told by their lord and master and the other side has enough real video and sound bites to make deep fakes obsolete. I mean "who gives a gently caress about Christmas..." is gold.

Yeah that was my thought. Why go through all the effort of making a deep fake that looks realistic when you can just write down a bunch of lies on a Facebook post and half of the US goes “omg deep state SEE!” Or whatever.

I haven't seen any deep fakes, but there has been a significant amount of photo editing to make people look even uglier than they already are. Often first put up by comedians and people that can legitimately claim to just be trolling, but whose work gets spread out of context. Like this one by the popular Vic Berger:

An edit of this:

Literally saw the edit make it even to this site, with comments seemingly indicating people thought it was real. Or from more professional institutions, CNN colour-correcting Bernie to make him pink:

The whole "my opponent is ugly" line of attack has traditionally been very successful online, but it's weird to see it applied to people that are on camera all the time. 'Faces of atheism' or the 'incel dating profile' thing are good examples, especially the atheism one that was highly effective at shaming a once (annoyingly) prominent online subculture into submission. They would just take photos of ugly/nerdy people that were already being shared around in things like a/u/g threads and attach cringey statements professing to particular views with the implication that the person in the picture had proudly uploaded it themselves. A less culture war tainted example is this:

–which managed to make it to major meme status, but if you happened to catch it right when it started before he deleted himself from the internet you could see the guy who posted the original uncaptioned photo set responding like "oh god what did I do to deserve this?" because he was just some insecure guy trying to solicit advice on how to look attractive in photos.

An example of this would be the twitter account mooncult, who claims to just be doing their thing for weird twitter laughs and at least at one time was reasonably well received by the left flank attacking mainstream democracts. Prime example is a clip of Biden edited down so he says "The culture, our culture, our culture is not imported from some African nation or some Asian nation, it is our English jurisprudential culture — our European culture", appearing to be a racist American culture is white style statement. But in the full edited out context he is saying that violence against women is rooted in European culture, arguing against anyone that might try to use race stats on domestic violence or sexual assault.

I haven't even looked into what the nakedly pro-Trump propagandists are doing but I would assume it is even less ethical than this.

The point of propaganda isn't to sway the other side's moderates/"undecided" anymore, those people are practically extinct by this point. It's now to entrench and energize the believers.
