games i've been playing lately because there's no work atm (partial list) kick master (nes) - it's a game about a guy who's really good at kicking, so good in fact that when he levels up he learns cool new kicks. i'm a big fan of platforming action games that give you a bunch of moves to work with, and as nes platformers go this one feels pretty good. gets really hard near the end so kids couldn't beat it on a rental, might be able to 1cc it?  sword master (nes) - it's a game about a guy who's really good at swording, he doesn't learn more sword moves but he does learn magic? 😓 both you and enemies can block high and low and the boss fights involve a lot of careful spacing, it's pretty satisfying to get better at, even though jumping overheads kind of dominate a lot of enemies. has a dark and atmospheric art style and some impressive parallax scrolling. gets really hard near the end so kids couldn't beat it on a rental, probably won't 1cc this one because the last boss is heinous. https://i.vgy.me/xfUrxS.webm shock troopers (arcade) - a++ neogeo top-down shooter. love the metal slug-like mechanic where when you attack enemies at close range you do a special animation and they drop an item, very satisfying. dnb soundtrack must've really stood out in arcades. pretty sure i can 1cc this.  13 sentinels: aegis rim (ps4) - 80% twisty sci-fi adventure game (think zero escape), 20% real time with pause giant robot strategy battles. stellar presentation, beautiful art and music, it's been a very entertaining ride. doesn't have credits! 👎 https://i.vgy.me/Eig2jb.webm

Help Im Alive posted:There were a couple of fun fire fighting games on SNES that I played a lot but forget the names of. In one of the ones I'm thinking of it would show you a map of the building/the type of fire etc before you went in and you'd have to choose which equipment to bring with you - it was cool. The other one was more anime and played better The more anime one got a sequel on the ps1 with sweet fire boss battles

This weekend I beat Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. DQ clone with a very high encounter rate and constant menuing to recover because it's impossible to get though a single random battle without someone losing half their hp. Recommend playing a real Dragon Quest instead. I also briefly played Castlevania 64, up through the cool Resident Evil mansion. And I tried the dlc challenge levels for Spelunker HD. It starts you with 50 lives and I ran out in level 6. There are 100 levels. And last night when I was supposed to go to bed I instead took 1 run at Hard Corps Uprising with the dlc sword lady. Game remains great.
