I'm sure he doesn't want to be POTUS but he knows that he needs to be; to survive and so that his kids don't end up in jail/in poverty.

It's clear that this year they've not been nearly as successful at courting outside sources to help them, mostly because Biden is pretty clean and doesn't have many liabilities (or liabilities that actually matter to most voters). The Hunter stuff is all they've got and no one cares. Most of the big GOP donors have completely abandoned him and would rather come back fighting in 2022. Mitch has already absolutely committed to preparing to ruin Biden's hope of any smooth economic recovery.
