are there any pro-zombie movies? My zombie apocalypse fantasy has always been to just join the zombies ASAP and we can work with them to build a better constitution and civilization with a much healthier environment since nobody needs all the disgusting living-human luxuries that taint the world.

Fun times once again! Not every scary movie has the guts to conga-line its baddies off a cliff so efficiently, but there you have it.

It begs the question- if you had access to the backlot, sets and props of a classic movie studio, what story would you tell with them? I'd do a movie about a real estate agent who specializes in castles, and the movie is him trying to sell one crazy millionaire castle after castle and keep him from seeing that they're haunted. Just needs one more sale to retire, but ALL these castles are haunted darn it!!!!

give it a wisecracking vulture (a la eddie murphy in shrek) and you've hit gold!

also thanks bfm, that was real fun

1920's The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is indeed available, would people like that, or perhaps a contemporary (that I found a very high quality copy of): 1922's Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror!

Or, maybe even both, if we feel like it?

both good imo

we're starting to get towards the end of the month (and halloween! :thunkin:) but maybe an idea for another movie (after caligari and/or nosferatu) would be one of the Romero films? night of the living dead seems to be on YT, I don't know if it meets all the criteria tho?

We could do this:

we could do dumbo maybe!

not the live action one which is supposed to be terrible (then again, it might be perfect for mocking)

Join us at PSP-TV for the 1936 anti-dope propaganda classic, Marihuana!

I've thought a lot about our last film, She Shoulda Said No, and I just get madder and madder. The obvious disinformation about substances aside, it was a true-life story about the actress playing herself, and she got third billing! And they gave her no redemption story, absolutely no sympathy as a character, they even muted her emotional final monologue and played a text scroll over it, what BS. I'm so horrified that Hollywood has been so crappy to ladies for so long. The historic record of it is just appalling from every angle.

the real world aspect of the movie was hyper messed up, I was not focused on it when watching but I realized it later

but the very title says it all. misogyny and victim blaming writ large.

Yeah, go for it, link any suggestions you have in this thread, and that goes for everyone. The biggest deals are it has to be on Youtube and not blocked in any regions, we have viewers all over. Any restrictions throw flags in psp-tv, so you can test videos there first if you want, that's what I do.

Speaking of psp-tv I am still interested in alternatives to it, it's just what's worked so far but it'd be great if we could watch a wider selection & chat. So please, suggestions on this aspect of movie night too.

this might be a dumb question but could you just configure a zoom meeting so that only the video is visible and all conversation is by text chat? you could presumably stream anything you can play, including a video file or dvd/blu-ray or whatever?

thanks bfm! this one was fun, while I can't be sure I may be around then and would love to participate if so

Hey friends, I could use some suggestions. Tomorrow (the 16th) is another good animated feature night, and I'm having a hard time, specifically with finding films to show by diverse directors. The field of movie directors in general is painfully white and male, but animated movies are even worse since they're more expensive, take longer, tend not to do well with awards and are a bigger box office risk (and yes I know these are intensely stupid reasons to have a near-monoculture for this medium, but we all know that's no barrier to it being the gross truth: producers just trust white men the most with their money :( ). So, I'm looking for a movie that is:

1-Feature length (1-3 hours)
2-Viewable on youtube in 1 part
3-Animated
4-Actually good
5-Directed by anybody other than a Caucasian dude

At present the only options I've found that check all those boxes are all Indian films, which is fine, but since we already did Sita Sings the Blues it'd be nice to not just keep hammering Hindu cosmology, which is what a LOT of the Indian animated films I'm seeing are. Thoughts?

Irene Starevich co-directed this, which I have not watched through but has some neat stop motion puppetry:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_the_Fox

e: you can turn on auto-translated subtitles, which aren't great but better than nothin'
