Dexter wakes up, groggy and confused. He doesn't seem to be in the basement where he went to sleep, and despite the bright daylight streaming through the curtains he can't hear any of the busy sounds of New York traffic he would expect at this time of day. Has someone kidnapped him? He hears a sound coming through a cracked doorway, picks up a nearby set of scissors and skulks towards it. He grips the handle tightly, raising the scissors behind his back, and pushes the door open. In the shower Rita turns and smiles at him "Good morning!". Everything after season 1 was a dream! We pick up from shortly after the death of Brian, back in Miami metro, with all the characters back played by their original actors. That includes Cody and Astor, who are still portrayed as young kids despite their actors actually being in their late 20's.

Dexter makes a deal with the Devil, and has to prove his worth by going against Jack the Ripper, Genghis Khan and many fan favorites. I'm still pissed off that that one show with this same premise got cancelled, can you tell?

I also don't remember if it ended in a cliffhanger, but Ray Wise as the devil was so much drat fun I'd still say it's worth it even if it does. It's not like that's how it's remembered. It's remembered by everyone who watched it as, "The super fun show where Ray Wise had the time of his life as the Devil." I will say I remember season 2 not being quite as good as season 1. Like, and this is pure speculation on my part, I always suspected they didn't expect to get picked up for a second season so they only had a 1 season plan, and had to scramble for what to do in season 2.
