Based on what he's said when he's been on the PST pod (mocking Rowling's transphobia, everything having to do with his horror story going to see a play in the deep swamp) I really don't think he's a chud, he just has an unfortunate dude in armor logo and collabs with sseth semi-frequently.

If you're in to pokemon and want something to put on in the background, Jrose11 does a bunch of videos where he tries to beat Pokemon Red/Blue (and very occasionally other titles) with just one pokemon, no items allowed in battle. This ranges from the actual starters, to legendaries, to an Abra that he's not allowed to evolve and can only teach physical moves.

His videos can be pretty long and it's not exactly super riveting content visuals-wise, which is why I recommend it more as a background thing, but I've quite enjoyed his stuff.

One of the more interesting takeaways is Lindsay coming to the realization that the fundamental premises of her first video was wrong, or at least incomplete. The problem isn't Cain abusing the DMCA, it's about Cain being a psycho bully who tries to deplatform anybody who's even remotely critical of her or that she doesn't like, and DMCA takedowns are just one of the many tools her kit for doing so.

Hopefully Cain isn't stupid enough to actually go through with trying to sue Lindsay. It's a battle Cain would absolutely lose, but even frivolous lawsuits are expensive and exhausting and nobody needs to go through that, particularly this year of all years.

Wait what? :stonk: I knew Jack was crazy and I heard about the batman thing, but what's this about him putting porn in his lawsuits?

It was in a disbarment case against him too. Thompson was convinced the opposing lawyer was working with some Florida LGBT activist who had been rightfully publicly critical of Thompson's homophobic moral crusading. So in order to "discredit" this opposing secret LGBT-agent lawyer, he submitted a massive amount of hardcore M/M porn to the judge, as "proof" of how horrible and gross this other lawyer and his secret LGBT allies really were.

The judge, unsurprisingly, was not amused.

Granted this is just me spitballing.

He was definitely always a nutter and had to be known as such in legal circles, like holy poo poo this wikipedia page:

The modern Democratic party as constructed is liberal, not leftist. This is an important distinction and why you for example see a lot of people praise Warren as a "progressive" while she's banging the drum that capitalism is good, actually, it's just the bad people who distort capitalism and make it bad that we have to take care of. She's about as far to the left as you can get in the party and still be considered within the primary fold, and she's still a liberal. Yet despite that apparently Biden doesn't want to give her a position in his administration partly because he's worried she's "too left" for moderate voters. Meanwhile people like AOC or Tlaib have the DCCC pouring buckets of money into (D) primary challengers from the right because while they are nominally part of the party, they are considered far too left by the people actually running it.

As for actual voters themselves, it's trickier. There is a genuine leftist block in the party, as there is a genuine liberal block. You also have a lot of racial and socio-economic blocks that influence some voting behaviors and loyalties. However there are a lot of other people who simply aren't really plugged in but were beaten to death by a hammer this primary season by the media that a) Trump is a unique, existential threat who has to be removed from power, b) Bernie was not electable because ~reasons~, and c) Biden was electable and so to get rid of Trump you must vote for Biden, and anything else is tantamount to voting for Trump. This is not the block that won Biden SC, but it is the block that won him a ton of victories on Super Tuesday and then on after all the other liberal candidates dropped out en masse.

There's also an aspect that the dems are huffing their own farts a bit about how uniquely terrible Trump is, and so thought that once they got their guy the nomination, everybody including the left would just fall in line because, well obviously, they're better than Trump. When the left largely did not fall in line and instead ridiculed Bernie for jumping on Biden's bandwagon and mused about voting green, their options were to sure up the leftist vote by incorporating their policy - but risk alienating the liberals - or try vote shaming. Unsurprisingly they opted for the latter. Whether it works or not - or whether they ultimately even need the left at all this election - will remain to be seen. Lotta NoJoe's are super smug about Biden losing and likewise a lot of libs are super smug about Biden crushing it, but after 2016 I'm not placing any bets. Howie Hawkins could win and I'd barely bat an eye while remarking "oh hey, the polls were wrong." I'm just waiting to see where the cards fall, however they fall.

A lock acts primarily as a deterrent, oftentimes simply by existing and looking like a lock even if it's a piece of poo poo you could rake open in 2-3 seconds with a properly bent paperclip. Master locks are well known to be complete dogshit but it doesn't really matter in the vast majority of cases where you'd be using one to prevent petty, opportunistic theft. If a guy walks past a bike rack looking for an easy score and sees two bikes: one secured with a $10,000 ultra pick/destruction-proof swiss mega lock, and one with a $10 master lock, they're probably not going to bother with either because they were just hoping to find one not locked up they could ride off on.

Having said that what really scares me is all the gun safes he shows on the channel that are completely an inexcusably compromised.

The thing with ratings is that a lot of people treat them as shorthand to decide if they should consume that media product or not. Partially because as a species we're pretty mentally lazy about that sort of thing and love shorthand, and partially because there's so much goddamn media available that critically pouring over everything to decide what is and is not worth your time isn't feasible. Like if you're a working parent with three kids you don't have time to tear into all the reviews for the summer releases, you open up the Now Showing page and see the thing rated G with a cute name and go "yeah okay I'll bring my kids to that." A problem that arises though is that ratings really only care about superficial elements like the level and type of violence, sex, and language. They don't really care about themes or target audiences. Which can result in oddities like 2001 Space Odyssey getting a G rating (imagine bringing your ~10 year old kids to that one lol) or Breakfast Club getting an R because it acknowledges that teens experiment with drugs and sex and alcohol, which gates the film off from what is arguably it's target audience.

The thing is, studios know ratings are used as shorthand, and so they will add or withhold certain elements to achieve a rating that matches the audience they're going for. Office Space didn't need tons of swearing - you could rip pretty much all of it out and the story still works - but without it you're looking at a PG movie whose whole thrust relies on the viewer having experience at the very least familiarity with the soul-crushing insanity that is corporate office culture. Kids movies have to bend over backwards to make sure any violent elements are depicted in a ratings board friendly way: the infamous "Disney Villain death" is one such example. So movies with "mature" themes often have gratuitous sex, violence, or swearing thrown in because that bumps the rating up to an "R" and makes adults more likely to show up for it, which conflates those superficial elements with something being "mature". It's not just limited to movies either: TV and video games suffer from the same problem. HBO is a particularly big offender: pretty much any prestige television they make throws in a ton of gratuitous nudity and swearing even when it doesn't serve the story whatsoever, presumably just to get an MA rating and drum up interest.

tl;dr a lot of people who think "Batman but he says "gently caress" and shoots people" is more mature only think that way because the way media ratings incentivize writers in such a way that media aimed at adults often has elements thrown in to artificially pump the rating up to one that matches the target audience.

Schwarzwald posted:

HBO doesn't add gratuitous nudity and swearing to their shows to get an MA rating. HBO gets their shows an MA rating to advertise that their shows have gratuitous nudity and swearing. The gratuitous nudity and swearing is the part people like!

Sure but you can't deny that people also conflate those things with a show being "mature" even when those elements are actually used in a juvenile manner. GoT certainly has mature elements, but Jamie opening the door to reveal a bunch of half naked prostitutes who dogpile Tyrion while he makes jokes about the size of his dick is not one of them. Shows aimed at adults throw in gratuitous elements and while there is undeniable natural attraction to gratuity, it also reinforces to audiences that nudity/violence/etc = mature even when it isn't used in such a manner.

I guess if anything I'm critiquing our country's puritan bullshit. Take something like the original Dragonball, which is very clearly aimed at children. It has sex jokes and full frontal nudity that - because they're entirely juvenile in nature - are perfectly fine to publish in a Japanese serial aimed at kids/teenagers, but over here would either have to be censored or slapped with a mature content warning. Gating off boobs and blood and bad words as things only adults should experience creates a media perception that those things are "mature" when they really aren't that intrinsically.
