Rarity posted:Retribution will be causing chaos in the next round after winning with 85% of the vote If there's one thing we can't get enough of on PSP it's voting for things. This time we're going to vote in a knockout tournament to decide the Worst Gimmick of All Time! But the entrants won't be decided by me, oh no! They will be decided by you, lovely goons. In order to nominate a gimmick post a picture in this thread and write a paragraph about why this gimmick sucked so bad. For now this we're going to limit it to one nomination per person until things slow down and then maybe I'll open up repeats if needed to bump us up to a suitable number for a bracket. Anyway to get the ball rolling I am going to nominate: The Gobbledy Gooker Why is this gimmick bad? I mean, just loving look at it. It's a guy in a turkey suit. It's not even any old guy in a turkey suit, it's one of the loving Guerreros who they put in a turkey suit to dance with Mean Gene and who then never showed up again. Just a complete waste of everyone's time and an idea so bad that even WWE makes fun of it any time they've mentioned him in the last 30 years. This is one turkey that won't bring anyone joy on Thanksgiving. All right, now it's your turn. Let the nomination period begin! Entrants: 1. 2. Adorable Adrian Adonis (WWE) - nominated by Davros1 3. Ok people are still going so I guess we're shooting for 128. Considering that's a lot I'm gonna let people nominate as many times they like. However I must insist that you follow the rules: 1. Include a picture and an explanation with your submission (not everyone may know what you're talking about) 2. This is a gimmick tournament, not a wrestler tournament. Wrestlers with multiple bad gimmicks would need multiple entries.

I mentioned them in the thread title so I'm going to have to include The Spirit Squad A bunch of fresh callups from OVW were given a gimmick of male cheerleaders and spent the whole summer of 2006 being dunked on by Hunter and Shawn including one time when they were literally dunked on with poo poo. None of them stood out in any way, the whole thing was a blatant attempt to laugh at dudes liking girly stuff because nudge nudge wink wink gay gay gay and their run ended when DX shoved four of them in a box which they literally shipped back to OVW. Just a complete and also offensive waste of time.

Jamison Let's team the simple-minded Bushwhackers up with a manager who is mentally disabled and then laugh at him as he picks his nose while calling him "a waste of human tissue". Just spiteful. Okato It might not seem like a big deal that TNA took a young Japanese talent and got him to dress like someone from the Green Hornet except that young Japanese talent was none other than Kazuchika fricking Okada The Empire Will Ospreay is obviously very talented at what he does so you can see why New Japan would want still want to feature him in a major role despite the very well documented shittness outside the ring. What they didn't need to do was turn him into one of the most awful obnoxious heel characters around while pairing him up with his equally lovely girlfriend Bea Priestley and then creating a new faction The Constable "Welcome to Applebee's, could I take your order please?"

Oh gently caress speaking of Hornswoggle that reminds me The Anonymous Raw GM After previous GM Bret Hart quit due to being repeatedly attacked by the Nexus his replacement would only take the role under one condition, his identity would remain secret and he would only communicate via emails to Michael Cole who was at the height of his heel run. The shows would run as scheduled until suddenly an annoying as gently caress ding ding sound would chime and Cole would spend five minutes milking it as he read out the email. Many big names were teased as the secret GM including Steve Austin and the Rock but it wasn't any of them. Nor was it Michael Cole himself, which would have made the most logical sense. No instead the McMahons ended up replacing the anonymous GM (I think with AJ Lee?) and the gimmick was dropped until months later it would return to be revealed that GM had been Hornswoggle the whole time. A terrible idea that pissed everyone off and resulted in nobody getting over.

Vince MechMahon posted:Bullet Club Civil War is an angle not a gimmick and also a really good one that was super over and is one of the direct factors that led to AEW? I'm gonna include it as the BC Elite sub-faction cause they definitely had a lot of critics for their presence in New Japan. It's not the first entry people have submitted that I'd disagree with and if people don't think it's a terrible gimmick then they won't vote for it. Anyway a couple more things I had in mind to mention: Lo Down You might think that Chaz had had things bad enough after his short failed runs as a literal mother-fucker and then fake wifebeater but the gods of WWE weren't done with him just yet. After reforming the Headbangers with Thrasher the team went nowhere and the latter was sent back to developmental. With nothing to do Chaz was paired up with another wrestling without anything going on, D'Lo Brown. With D'Lo in his corner the team had some actual potential and the friendship between a black man and a white man could have been responsibily addressed an important social issue. Oh wait, what's that? They just had the two men pretend to be Indian and gave them Tiger Ali Singh as a manager? Of course they did. With a lovely stereotypical foreign heel gimmick Lo Down went nowhere and there most defining moment turned out to be losing their one spot in the 2001 Royal Rumble to make space for Drew Carey. nWo 2000 A once mighty force that was now reduced to just a fraction of its former strength and coasting on its previous reputation while existing purely to push Jeff Jarrett as a main event? nWo 2000 was the perfect representation of WCW's final year. 13 spots left!

I just thought of this one and I couldn't bear to see it be left out Mae Young, Horny Grandma Make no mistake, Mae Young was a big deal in women's wrestling back in her day. Unfortunately the Attitude Era was not her day. At this point she was well into her 70s and was never going to be in matches but WWF continued to feature her week after as a gran who liked to gently caress. Highlights of this run include getting powerbombed through a table by Bubba Ray Dudley, getting her boobs out at Royal Rumble 2000 and a relationship with Mark Henry that resulted in the birth of a hand. She was responsible for so many famous flopped segments that she has to be included.

Ok so here's how this is going to work. I've split our 128 entries up into eight seeded brackets of 16. Voting will last for 12 hours for each matchup and votes will be submitted through Strawpoll. It's bedtime for me now so you'll have to wait for tomorrow for me to show you all of the first bracket but we'll get started with things now. Oh and please no one get hung up on the seeding especially if something you submitted got seeded lower than you think it deserves. It was all done fairly arbitrarily based purely on my personal opinion Round 1, Bracket 1 Braden Walker (11) vs. Gas Mask Dean Ambrose (6) It's a man who's career died at WWE against a man who's career was reborn when he left WWE! Voting is here, deadline is midday UK time.

The thing I will say about Ambrose as Bane is that you can see that the intentions were there. Dean's heel turn was meant to be a big deal, the problem was it was just a completely tone deaf read of what would click with the audience. Unlike some entries on this list which were intentional malicious attempts to undermine the wrestler carrying the gimmick.
