Glad to see Anaal Nathrakh getting posted. Their name means something like "Serpent's Breath" in Old Irish which owns. This total gem of theirs ends with a killer line, "Uranus and Pluto stood in conjunction in the Sign of the Black Widow." That refers to the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombs (made from Uranium and Plutonium) and black widow = death. Amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUcFAA1dKPY This was the first death metal I ever heard. A friend sent it to me and I nearly fell out of my chair when the acoustic part snap-transitions to the metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmcC9aJkBlw "Moonshield" was my first In Flames, but this is my favorite. I even got people who don't like metal into it because it's so good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgfXQLS3K6g This is unquestionably the best version of "Africa" ever recorded. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH9FyLsfDzw A masterpiece of thrash metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09rHDabBQfA Godzilla is pretty metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ISzKpukWFs BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD PUMP MUD THROUGH MY VEINS! Maria Brink is such a good vocalist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_cSnv-yo8Y Have some symphonic metal. One of the few pieces from this band that doesn't involve Tuomas calling himself a poet or a wounded boy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5rZLQ Finally, I haven't encountered many people quite like Devin Townsend. Two tracks from albums I loved as an angsty teenager. The first one being KSE.....the old KSE, before Howard and their modern sound. This was their album that kind of rose them to fame, with my last serenade. But it's full of really heavy and raw songs with beautiful interludes. Jessies clean singing in this song is something else. At the 3minute mark is just https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1v87XBGgrvs The second one, is from JFAC. Their first release, a 2004 demo. Some say they were the first deathcore band. This is heavy poo poo. Good poo poo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3BLdDeUXZ0

I just wanted that sound of god gargling a mouthful of bees and gravel. I've noodled with guitars since high school (I'm 41now), but hearing Dragonaut one day (and Electric Wizard around the same time) lit a fire under my rear end and I started to get serious about recreating that sound I started to get serious about recreating that sound . Maybe it's a bit of a midlife crisis; but I've been practicing pretty steadily the past year and definitely getting better chops. Catastrophe posted:Here's my pathetic name dropping. I was in a poopy band in Michigan with two guys who then went on to be founding members of Black Dahlia Murder after that group dissolved. My fingers can't do guitar stuff that fast. That's a badass story, are those guys still in the band? There's definitely more former TBDM members than current members these days, hehe. Here's my name drop story! When I lived in Austin, I bought weed a couple times from Bryan Ritchie, bassist for The Sword. This was riiiiiiight before they were plucked from relative obscurity (at least on a worldwide level) and started opening for Metallica around 2003. He was a friend of a friend, and a very nice dude during my limited time with him. neato burrito fucked around with this message at 16:49 on Oct 25, 2020 |

This was at an Exodus show, which is the only reason I ever knew it was him. I just wanted to melt into the floor and die. A few smaller pits got started near the end of the show and it was funny seeing the older folk haul rear end out of the way.

These are two of his songs that I'd characterize as introspective metal. They also sound like...stepping into another world. I definitely get the feeling of an ocean storm in "Seventh Wave," with enormous waves crashing during the chorus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3-NQvRmo3I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfVI3tMGTi0 In a decidedly different vein, this version of "Toxicity" has been among my most-played tracks of this year, particularly 3:00 onward. Instruments are on-point and the three singers' vocal ranges complement each other really well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8liMsWDC80 Also the chorus of this one is very 2020: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gmswmbosYo Down Let it all burn down Burn it to the ground We'll be safe and sound When it all burns down
