Problem description: My cable modem (not my router) will start having noticeable slow downs and at first I thought this was just due to everyone in the area streaming, but I've realized that if I power cycle the modem daily my speeds stay fast. Is there a chance the modem is defective? Or is it just that the cable network is saturated but that by power cycling I'm getting a renewed lease or something? What should I try next?

Attempted fixes: Daily power cycles

Recent changes: No

Operating system: N/A

System specs: MB7621 Cable Modem on on Comcast Xfinity

Location: United States

I have Googled and read the FAQ: Yes

If you're using a router make sure the firmware is up to date.

Yeah, you may wan to request a new one if you're leasing it.
