https://twitter.com/blogTO/status/1332330724561743882 Just implode it now and keep the Jays in Buffalo for a couple years while it's being built - there won't be minor league ball in 2021 anyway Also to remind y'all: quote:Bartolo Colón of the Buffalo Bisons threw the only no-hitter in Sahlen Field history in June 1997 against the New Orleans Zephyrs, sealing a 4–0 win. Darude - Adam Sandstorm posted:Don't the Bisons have some of the highest attendance in AAA? Like...30 years ago, sure And back then part of the deal was that buying a Bisons season ticket guaranteed you a spot for MLB season tickets, but that never came Bob Rich left the city holding the bag for the stadium after he couldn't land an MLB franchise - he still owns the Bisons but hasn't put money into the stadium in years I'll give you an example - the Bisons have been trying to replace their original seats at Sahlen Field for the past 7 years, but can only afford to do like 2000 at a time. That's why half the seats are still red and broken.

Darude - Adam Sandstorm posted:They're consistently 5th in IL attendance and roughly 10th in AAA. They almost left town in 2008 - Bisons originally signed a 20-year deal with the city to use the stadium, but when attendance slumped in the late 1990s the city had trouble maintaining the place and paying off the debt from building the venue (the city went bankrupt around 2003). So ever since the 20-year deal expired, the city has only been offering the team 1-year extensions because they don't want to get hosed again.

Gerblederp posted:Keep the minor leagues but actually pay the minor leaguers enough to live imo The minor league players should unionize, like, right now If MLB wants to throw their branding all over everything, make them pay for it I wonder if the proposed thing where minor league teams would play major league teams is still on the table

Travel is being reduced at all levels to benefit players and coaches as well. The pandemic likely will keep the Bisons playing only in their division this season but future years could see them playing only some of the other 19 possible opponents each season. article also says there will likely be no minor league playoffs this year
