mate! I have no idea how you’re doing these. it is so far beyond my understanding and ability. I’ve been away hiking and will have a look when I get an evening to do something but I don’t expect I’ll be able to do barely anything worthwhile at all. all your stuff is incredible btw: amazing these are done with shaders

my man is back! I know you can do some cool stuff with animation nodes, the stuff you put in the blender thread was sick

hmm well.. I won't deny thats possible. tying it into the theme... hmm.. good point. next day I have an evening at home I'll look at it

oh mate spill the beans did your $$ go to thread ripping or rtx or what??? i’m desperate now

echinopsis posted:oh mate spill the beans no thread ripping for me i'm afraid but i did get an rtx 3070. the processor is a prety nice i9-10850k, physics simulations run so much faster now and bonus is that i don't need a space heater in my office for the winter

that sounds like a solid processor.. but that gfx card... mate can you use obs or gifcam to record your computer actually pushing out a render? only if you can be bothered

jesus christ lol thats incredible. Imma have to look up that optix thing also do you ever turn on adaptive sampling? do it and watch those renders fly
|
# ? Nov 9, 2020 09:38 |
|
optix uses the raytracing cores on the nvidia RTX cards I believe. never used adaptive sampling, I'm scared to because I don't know what a good noise threshold is lol Day 9 fluffy, not that much effort

Jenny Agutter posted:scared to because I don't know what a good noise threshold is lol I leave it at 0,0 and let cycles choose. do an A B comparison and see if you can spot the difference and then compare the time savings im sure you’ll be convinced, at the very least for animations

ok i know literally nothing about blender and am totally winging it. here's my first try for the cookie. i started with a sphere, extract the z component, multiply by negative one, run it through a one of those mapper functions so i can tweak how much the -1 is added to the original value, then apply that as a displacement back to the z channel. High blend for the bottom side, more gentle for the top, none at low z values. unfortunately even if displacement is the full z value you get some rounding, probably because i'm only displacing one dimension i'm not sure. for colour i have a lighter and darker and blend them depending on the z value. i feel like it's lovely but i'm finding everything really hard i guess as expected. that video on the op made it look really easy lol. behold what i want to try and do is explore generating a texture and applying that as another height displacement. wanna try and add cracks but i'm not finding a good way to see what they are let alone muck with them to get windy cracks.

# ? Nov 15, 2020 06:37 |
|
yes!! awesome work! you can check out my .blend for cookie prompt to see how I did extra texture and cracks, basically added a normal displacement node to the vector displacement

i did my first one. the fungus. idk what im doing really but i started with the default cube and just shader noded the heck out of it fart simpson fucked around with this message at 06:47 on Nov 18, 2020 |

my nodes look like this. also i dont know why it has a couple weird spikes.
|
# ? Nov 18, 2020 06:40 |
|
that’s cool as hell, great work! the spikes could be due to not enough surface subdivisions maybe? but it’s dangerous to turn that up if you’re doing adaptive, it’s easy to run out of memory on your video card. could you post the blend file somewhere, I’d love to take a peek at how you did the tubes effect
|
# ? Nov 18, 2020 08:14 |
|
blend file is here: https://gofile.io/d/s5EYbU yeah i was doing this on my crappy work laptop with integrated graphics so its all cpu and i dont have much ram in here. didnt turn up the subdivisions too high the tubes were a voronoi texture into some rgb curves so i kinda "drew" the shape onto the rgb curve node, similar with the base looking at it more it actually looks more like a sea sponge instead of a fungus but who cares

i did the architecture. didnt have as much time to mess with this so i kept it simple and made an "origami" house https://i.imgur.com/jFwjLfV.mp4 and my nodes are a mess, hugely unorganized

Day 22 city. need to watch more videos about vector displacement, this was all done with normal displacement and i don't care for the curved sides

i like the curved sides op
|
# ? Nov 23, 2020 04:16 |

i just spent like a half hour slamming my head against the nodes wondering why nothing was working correctly and then i realized i hadn’t added a subdivision surface modifier so there was no geometry to work with
