my halloween game was fatal frame and i had a good time playing it, mostly

i think as far as debut games for survival horror, fatal frame 1 is just behind silent hill 1 in my rankings. my only problem with the game comes in the third night, when the healing items mysteriously vanish at a time when you basically get into a bit of a boss rush, including facing a katana wielder twice. a lot of frustrating game overs just because i didn't have the health to stay in the fight (which isn't helped by some ghosts having a bad teleportation trick that doesn't give you enough time to run away, FOLKLORIST I'M LOOKING AT YOU)

the other 4 chapters don't have that problem, just that night, it's weird and a bad portion of the game. otherwise i'd have given the game a 9/10, instead i give it an 8

FF2 is supposed to be the best game in the series so i'll look forward to playing that later down the road (i have it already but i'm gonna move over to other games)

gently caress, you made me check, now i'm gonna be glued to election feeds
there's not a ton of point to this when some states won't finish counting ballots for days

like georgia had a gently caress up with a pipe bursting in the ballot storage room (no ballots were damaged) and so they delayed that county's ballot counting to tomorrow. wisconsin will take a couple of days. pennsylvania will take a couple of days. and there was a usps shenanigan where they are not delivering like 300k ballots on time or something like that

the problems though are bigger than just this election, regardless of outcome, just because of how much support there is for racism and hate. not enough was done in the last 2 years to curb the rise of things like q and *chan and a lot of work is ahead in the next several years to stop the misinformation and pop the bubbles

the nice thing is seeing dsa and lqbt people voted into congress, as well as progressive props like raising minimum wage in FL and decriminalizing marijuana in NJ are being greenlit (no pun intended). it's basically.. people want progressive policy but they don't want progressive candidates because they can't decouple 'leftist' from 'socialism' and 'evil'

I don't want to get too political here because I know most people are probably trying to avoid seeing any of that sort of stuff, so I'll keep it to this:

I genuinely believe that it's too late to stem the tide of authoritarianism when so much of our population openly welcomes it, one political party openly welcomes it, and the other says its bad but can't or won't do anything about it and whose supporters can barely even manage to outvote it. The last year has genuinely convinced me that America is a doomed country whose population is just as fanatical as the countries we claim to despise so much. With the new emergence of a work-from-home economy, especially in the field I got my degree in, as soon as I manage to secure a livable income which could quite possibly be never, I'm getting the gently caress out of here
I mean that's a plan too, hopefully you can pull it off

as always i am not buying new games and instead buying old ones

this time i bought pac-man world 2 & 3, and elebits

i did buy Moon but that's literally a ps1 game that's only been localized this year so it's still an old game..

the last time I bought a new game it was ROCKETRON for $3.59 (and that game was cool so it was worth it) and Wild West and Wizards for $7.49 (needs heavy optimization), and then Animal Crossing before that. i guess there's the itch.io bundle that had some new games but mostly i was doing it to donate

i will get ps5 and series x both but not this year. having one in the living room and bedroom so i can game socially and lonely, whichever i prefer

right now ps4 is in my bedroom and the one x is in the living room, and the one x just sits there at the moment because i've been doing a lot of retro gaming (i still need to play SOR4 on Gamepass tho)

if I could write either off in april then i'd buy them this year but they're gonna be out of stock for a while regardless

a smart decision in a creative industry is to say youre not political but register for a "free speech" alt-right social media platform advertised by ted cruz. even smarter is to share covid conspiracies and then say that someone else did that on your account but you weren't hacked and it's still your account

the only thing that makes me nervous is that internal documents don't always mean "we're 100% committed to seeing this through to the end", so DGS1&2 localization shouldn't be taken as a full certainty yet until they officially announce it.. it's possible thats old material from a planned localization that they've since changed their minds on... I'm always going to be gunshy about Ace Attorney because capcom US has dicked around with it so much

like i'll feel less sure about it if more of that leak uncovers the cancelled dino crisis project and it's presented as if it's still in development

The 7th Guest
Dec 17, 2003

yeah enhancements can be added via patch (basically Blood & Truth has a 'ps5' graphics setting that you technically could choose if you're playing it on ps4 as well because it's still a ps4 game)

it's like how bloodborne THEORETICALLY could get enhancements if FROM ever released a patch. but they won't lol

it'll be up to every VR developers to patch their poo poo rather than the PS5 natively enhancing BC VR

The 7th Guest
Dec 17, 2003

some stuff in the capcom leak is from 2018 so that does make me concerned that the DGS localization will end up having been scrapped at some point

The 7th Guest
Dec 17, 2003

my assumption is nintendo selects will come back around the time the switch pro is released.. it's usually a "halfway point of console lifespan" thing

we're more likely to get nintendo selects than gamecube virtual console or w/e

The 7th Guest
Dec 17, 2003

oh yeah the DGS localization stuff is from a 2019 powerpoint so it's definitely possible it was shelved since then imo

i feel like wolfenstein new order's gameplay would work well with a goldeneye type game. single-player-wise anyway

the mix of guns blazing and stealth segments (taking out commanders before clearing out the rest of the room, etc). just add bond gadgets to it

anyone that fell off of genshin because of the AR hellgrind btw, the current event is Really Good and has a lot of story associated with it + some cool side quests. if this is how events are gonna be structured in this game instead of the really lovely event they rushed out last month, then genshins only getting better and better...
i'll have to consider trying it again then i guess, because the AR grind even in the 20s was just too much for me and it was obvious that the numbers were jimmied to compensate for COVID delaying things

tonight though i played nano breaker, the third in the Iga ps2 castlevania trilogy. ok so it's a bit different from the other castlevanias in that it doesn't have castlevania in the title, and there are no castlevania characters or enemies, there are no belmonts, and it's not a castlevania game at all

but it's still in the trilogy because it is essentially a followup to those two games (lament and curse), with the fast but not splashy action combo combat, slowly progressing through a map and fighting waves of enemies, big bosses, and a weird character progression system (this time tied to gallons of blood)

it also feels like if someone in the past had a precog dream of metal gear rising but forgot most of the details and just scribbled something down. jake is basically raiden and he has a plasma sword that crackles not unlike those early MGR trailers. but theres no self-awareness at all, and it's not quite as silly or over the top

ALTHOUGH

the game does open with a cutscene where a mom vomits blood on her child and then her head splits open and she turns into a giant mech

2020 games i've played: journey to the savage planet, animal crossing, ori 2, necrobarista, xenogunner, rocketron, the lost art of innkeeping, the white door, spyder, Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, Dreams, the last campfire, a monster's expedition, beyond a steel sky, shantae 5, the pathless

of those games, only maybe 3 of them would make my overal top 10 for the year -- animal crossing, dreams, moon -- although spyder and necrobarista would probably make top 20

i'm at 180 games beaten on the year and a couple dozen unfinished so i have plenty of material to work with to build a list
