The only saving grace of a sucdem like Biden is that they'll at least take the deadly loving pandemic seriously. In the election news blitzkrieg it seems to have kinda dropped off the radar that covid is worse now than when it "peaked" in early summer.

E: Florida passing minimum wage while breaking hard for Trump reminds me of something a historian said about the new deal. It was basically than Americans generally like leftist policies when presented the technical details but hate voting for anything branded leftist.

In the last 10 years I've lived in two of the possible swing states this election. So I've been bombarded by calls and text messages for three different states. My personal phone still has an Atlanta area code and gently caress me if control of the senate depends on the GA runoff in January.

Here in Virginia I always try and talk up General Thomas, the Rock of Chicamauga, victor of the battle of Nashville, and I believe the only Virginian general who remained loyal to the Union. Standing by his country even though his entire traitorous family disowned him to me is far more moral courage than Col. Lee ever showed. It's amazing how all the southern heritage types have never heard of one of the most successful Virginian generals during the civil war. He doesn't have the name recognition alas, but it is my dream for a Gen Thomas statue to replace Lee down in Richmond.

The Civil War of 2020 was fought on many battlefields. From Northeast Maine...to the beaches of Hawaii. But the way it ended was glorious for the nation. An orange braggart, who somehow won the election of 2016, appeared well on his way to a victory which would have validated his undeserved feeling of superiority. But it was a former Lieutenant of the Democratic Army from Delaware who, thanks to a Red Mirage, kicked the gently caress out of the ladder just before he grabbed the belt and sent him to a slow, painful, humiliating loss while receiving more votes in a Presidential election than anyone has ever seen. Like you wouldn't believe. Bigly.

Beautiful song but I figured it's best saved for Trump's final walk out of the Whitehouse.

My accumulated hot takes. The national Dems loving suck at campaigning and I'm not sure the polls were that wrong as opposed to succdems being that bad at winning elections. Pelosi et al would rather lose than work with effective campaigners who also work with leftists.

I also think the GOP has an easier time motivating their base because they're united in white grievance politics but the Dems are a big tent coalition of everyone outside that who don't necessarily agree on anything else. Anyway Stacy Abrams is a force to be reckoned with in Georgia and I hope for the Senate races the national Dems shut the gently caress up and follow her lead on how to make them happen.

I feel like going forward is a three part strategy of 1) trying to pull every primary left, 2) sticking with voting blue in general elections to never cede ground to fascists, and 3) agitating for structural reforms. Getting rid of the electoral college may be a nonstarter but something like nationwide tanked choice voting seems essential. Our level of partisan hatred scares the poo poo out of me and our janky beta version of democracy is probably going to go continue to be deadlocked and underperforming while we're stuck in a first past the post two party system.

A community leader I'm friends with just posted a whole thing roughly paraphrased as "BIPOC organizers just kicked a fascist out of the White House and now a bunch of white male leftists are telling us that ain't good enough so we don't deserve to be happy about it."

I've worked with a couple boomer vets who genuinely believe there are no leftist liberals in the military. When I point out that I have irl friends who are leftist vets it immediately gets no true Scotsmaned into "well there are no leftist combat vets." When corrected on that it then turns into a rant about millennial snowflakes and suggestions that leftists aren't mentally tough enough to serve and are inflating our PTSD stats.

Also the vets loudly insisting the above all were in intel.

There's also that real world polling errors are probably not independent. (which you need for several samples narrowing the margin) See "shy trump voters", etc. This is largely why "reputable" polling had Hillary at some insane number (98%?) while 538 assumed some amount of polling error dependence and had it at 70/30.

Nate Silver does not deserve nearly as much flak as he took over the polls being wrong in 2016, when 538 was perhaps the most correct about underlying sample bias and warning that Trump had a reasonable chance.

However he deserves more flak than he currently gets since he decided being decent at statistics means he is now a politics knower and regularly shits out terrible opinions.

Biden has also overseen the fastest, hardest left turn in policy this country has seen since the great society or the new deal itself.

An example of one of those quiet statistics is that Biden has completely changed the demographics of the federal courts. Two thirds of his appointments are women. Two thirds identify as an ethnic minority. Put together, Biden has appointed more black women to the federal appeals courts than all prior presidents put together. About 40% of his appointees spent a substantial portion of their careers as either public defenders or civil rights lawyers.
