Definitely possible.

My current theory is that they know enough about the guy to know that he was definitely right leaning and likely a Trump supporter. They're gonna find out he was trying to martyr him or prove that he's sent by God or some other absolutely batshit thing. Even if Trump was genuinely shaken by this, and I think that's super likely even if it's temporary, I can't see the cooldown in rhetoric from everyone else without there being more known about the guy even if the motives aren't clear.

I'll add the caveat that I'm perplexed AOC and Bernie haven't come out with endorsements for Harris yet. Wasn't the main thrust of their argument that Democrats must align on the candidate to defeat Trump, just that they thought Biden was best positioned over an alternative?

AOC in particular called out party elites as trying to circumvent Harris. Surely the best way she can push back on that possibility now is through an immediate endorsement?

I live in rural Missouri. Drove through ruraler Missouri today to grab a trailer. There were a shocking number of Harris/Walz signs out there. It was 4 total that I noticed, but that was still surprising to me. I generally expect zero when out and about. Relatively few trump shrines either. Also surprising.

The hard core Trump support in rural areas tends to be the wealthy of those areas. The college friend who was just in a Trump boat parade used his family money to buy the used car dealership that he runs, for example.

These are also the folks that have Trump shrines at their lake house.

Except now tiktok has been showing me videos of lake houses with the giant Harris/Walz signs. I don't think that Harris is going to win any true red states, but something definitely feels different this cycle. I'm seeing way less overt Trump stuff and have personally seen Harris signs in places I didn't expect. Very anecdotal and all, but it feels like there's been a shift of some of his support.

I distinctly remember stories that the campaign was essentially on cruise control leading up the convention because of the assumption that they'd just walk over senile old man Biden. It seems like they maybe stepped it up a little since he dropped out, but I don't think they're doing anywhere near what they should be. The Trump takeover of the RNC is going to have long lasting effects.

I always thought Biden had a chance to win even with the uproar after the debate and the Trump campaign turning the Hillary 2016 "we've got this locked up" dial to 11 was why.

My vibes-based take is that Donnie's campaign strategy against Biden was basebasebasebase because that's all he needed and all the cheddarbrain could process. In comes Kamala and she successfully fights the economic stuff to a draw, while trying to pull Republicans. Donnie's brain decides basebasebasebase is the only way to keep the fondue warm and the old poo poo ain't working. In comes new poo poo - even MORE racism, even MORE anti-trans stuff, even MORE insults because well, that's what the crowd reacts to!

Especially notable is that lately, people will ask him about economic poo poo, then he'll say "well you know I think immigration is even more important and [racist poo poo]". It's all he's got left - basebasebasebase.

To his credit, if his base doesn't show up he's ultra hosed.

I see plenty of places with signs supporting the abortion ban and Josh Hawley, etc... that don't have a Trump sign anywhere to be seen. This place is not full of shy Trump voters either. I've seen less Trump signs, truck flags, etc... over the past few months than I have at any point in the 2 years I've been out here.
