If Trump loses, he will attempt to run again. He's not going to give up his position as head of the GOP; he won't appoint an heir and then calmly step aside. I don't expect his base to automatically leave him because he lost again, he will claim a rigged election just like last time. Trump isn't going away until he falls over dead, and then there will be a massive power vacuum in the republican party because no one can match his charisma.

If he doesn't get elected, SOMETHING is going to stick in the courts. And he will be what? 81-82 next presidential election cycle?

"Walz served in the military for 24 years, enlisting in the Nebraska National Guard at 17 in 1981 and then transferring to the Minnesota National Guard in 1996. He retired in 2005 to begin his successful run for the U.S. House, representing Minnesota as command sergeant major, among the highest ranks for enlisted soldiers. His battalion went on to deploy to Iraq shortly after Walz's retirement."

He had the top enlisted slot in a battalion or higher organization

Ohio is only as Blood Red as it shows since it is heavily gerrymandered.

A Gerrymander constitutional amendment is on the ballot in November

I could have sworn Ohio already had an anti-gerrymandering thing years ago and the state Republicans were just like "nah, we prefer not to". Not really sure what would make this one be enforced any better.

Ohio Supreme Court ruled the map unconstitutional and the legislature ignored them

This time it's different-ish because it's a citizen's panel that is not tied into the legislature at all. Of course, if the legislature/AG just say "nya nya we can't hear you" not sure what will happen. Ohio's statewide government is full of GOP true believers.

Yeah it kind of sucks a bunch.

Ohio has term limits and has had them for some time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Oelslager?wprov=sfla1

This guy has been in office since 1985.

Edit: Other state level fuckery.

Supreme Court Justices didn't use to have to run on party affiliation. Now it is required.

And DeWine appointed a dude to finish a term, that dude still has time left on his term but is now running to unseat the first black woman on the Ohio supreme court instead of just waiting for his current seat to be up for reelection.

So, I'm part of an insigent progressive group of about 20 precinct representatives in my red county's democratic party. This year we ran one of us who is on the executive commmittee for chair to replace the current chair who thinks that it's still 1985 and we should go knock on doors and get invited in for coffee to talk about candidates. We showed the chair how to segment a mailing list and she looked at it like sorcery and then decided that no, all mailers should go to everyone.

We have about 50 precincts, and of that group of 50, maybe 20 show up for the average meeting.

When it came time to vote for our progressive person for party chair, every loving boomer precinct person showed up to vote us down. People I've never seen before. One dude literally in a wheelchair with an oxygen bottle. We lost.

The "they" is the goddam boomers, and like most things in this country, I don't think anything will change till the reaper is done with them.

So that is more or less how my county democratic party is in my slightly red county.

Edit: my candidate had 2 fundraisers that were promoted on social media only. Those old fucks camp out on the local clubs Facebook pages so they were well aware of the fundraisers. BUT since we didn't send out mailers for those fundraisers they did not show up and then posted on Facebook that we were "lazy". Both of them had very low turnout.

AFAIK the crime was covering up how Daniels was paid and where the money came from, not that it's illegal to pay someone to sign an NDA where there wasn't a crime being covered up.

Honestly would love to hear a lawyer's take on this one.

I thought there was an election related charge in there

Wasn't it coming from campaign funds?

In this one its Daniels paying legal costs to Trump over the other case she lost iirc and Trumps team is basically giving a discount if she will agree to not discuss Trump in public. Not sure if that ties back into campaign money somehow or not.

quote:

What prosecutors needed to prove was that Trump falsified the records in order to further another crime — in this case, violating the New York election law that makes it a crime for “any two or more persons [to] conspire to promote or prevent the election of any person to a public office by unlawful means.”

Prior to 2022, Ohio judges didn't list their party affiliation, so voting used the scientific system of "eenie, meenie, miney, mo". Now, it's "find the democrats".

They only did that because 3 democrat judges ended up on the Ohio Supreme Court. With the 3 Dems running on Tuesday we could possibly flip the the court
