Oh good, I was hoping for this. Not a chance of following a dnd/cspam thread right now, I don't want to be that tuned in.

not caring here posted:That 5 degrees might be a bridge to far. What can you come up with as an "evil reason"? Democracy? Not wanting people to die? Yeah. I think the judge would probably accept ANYTHING that remotely smelled plausible, but its a matter of coming up with even that small bit. E: I'm sure everyone involved is looking at what retaliation is going to look like, and thats scary in Texas where people looked at me weird for NOT having a gun in the console of my car

Fallom posted:I think/hope that Trump not having a clear enough lead on election night has derailed any plan to meaningfully contest the results. It’d be a different story if we saw a Trump blowout yesterday that got eroded by mail-in counts. This small Biden lead is what I kept seeing people predict as the worst case, because it allows Trump to scream that the election was stolen and that his second amendment followers need to do something about it. A blowout would have been best, and a Trump win would be bad long term, but short term a narrow Biden victory might be the worst

not caring here posted:True, but I get the feeling the hardcore nut jobs overt actions and fed or starved by those around them. And when no one is really getting excited, they lose momentum. You aren't entirely wrong, but there is a big base of radicalized chuds who get fed and reinforced on the internet. Last time I looked, 55 mil had voted for him(I haven't looked at numbers since last night). If only a tenth of a percent end up being crazy driven by his tweets and 4chan, thats still over a half a million people. That's as big as the entire union army was during the civil war.

Its possible to be happy about a short term relief of pressure (and this is a relief of pressure, I am not exceeding worried about more anti-trans EOs under Biden) while still knowing the fight is far from over. This is a tiny victory, but it is still a victory that has slightly diverted the landslide of poo poo. Victory dance can't last forever tho

Instead, the black plague rawdogged Europe until about the only people left had a genetic resistance/immunity to the bacteria. Fun fact, the bubonic plague is endemic in New Mexico and Colorado by way of the prairie dogs everywhere. One of my exes learned the hard way not to joke about having the plague when she accidentally triggered a minor panic in the ER

Apathetic Medic posted:Using Trump to measure worthiness lowers the bar so significantly it nullifies all criticism of a candidate. This is the guy who had to drop out of his 1988 presidential bid because of plagiarism, let Clarence Thomas slide on a workplace sexual harassment incident off of race baiting, and got put on the presidential ticket in 2020 when they used gamesmanship to put him before other viable candidates. How hard is it to understand that people are asking for a candidate that can accomplish something and also doesn't make constant gaffes. By this kind of logic most other people could stand in his place, but won't be able to because his ego is bigger than the country's future. sure do wish my sense of ideological purity was bigger than the countries future, but they gonna try to literally kill me if they take power so I lack that kind of privilege.

ZombieApostate posted:Note how I said "being in public office" and not "running for public office". Campaigning on an unpopular stance indeed sounds like a stupid idea, which is why I never suggested that. Changing public perception is going to take longer than campaign season. People who will do that don't make it to leadership positions. Or do you think Nancy Pelosi is playing the long game and any day now is going to reveal herself? Some things are political poison, and you are demanding people sacrifice themselves over it
