I have decided to be a good citizen and pay attention to politics leading up to the election. My summary of the situation as someone who didn't pay much attention until a few weeks ago, and I think is common among people who don't really keep track: things are still very stupid, but at least I feel a little bit better about voting this time.

I think it’s a knock against Tim Walz that he did twenty four goddamn years in the army but at least he was a weekend warrior and got out at the right time and wasn’t full blown stupid.

At this point I think a successful campaign for him is anything that leads to a shitload of chaos and January 6 type poo poo. E: basically I think whether he wins or loses, it's going to be a poo poo outcome, and I think right now he is campaigning for chaos. boop the snoot fucked around with this message at 13:02 on Aug 15, 2024 |

Why didn’t 2016 make polls a moot topic of discussion? I guess the people that are running campaigns can use them for information, but what value do we get out of them that wasn’t completely undermined by 2016?

Mr. Nice! posted:2016 polls weren’t wrong, though. Trump victory was absolutely within the margin of error. They’ve gotten worse since then, though. What does this do for me as a voter though? I never said they were wrong, I just don’t know what valuable information I can get from them.

Arguably, a voter who simply stays home in their own state that will go 56/43 but does some get out the vote work for a swing state is doing more at the federal level than a voter in such a state who votes, but does nothing else. This makes sense. I didn’t consider the efforts that others might make in doing get out the vote work in response to polls. Thanks.

Maybe she will just spend 15 minutes trolling the gently caress out of him until he snaps. Trump is really predictable and very easy to figure out. It’s why world leaders love him so much. And a big reason why democrats have been so loving frustrating for eight years, they never exploit Donald Trump for being Donald Trump.

workers won't get deported. capitalism needs them. they just want to be able to shoot people at the border and be able to harass minorities in the streets. if they deport the workers then they will lose one of the foundations of their entire party platform. I don't think that's what they want.

Torrannor posted:It is possible to read the questions differently. What are price controls? The federal government limiting how much companies can raise the price of food/groceries is a price control. But the federal government directly setting the prices of food/groceries is also a price control, and presumably much less popular. The former is a relatively narrow question, so it might make sense for people to be more open to that policy than giving blanket approval for the government to establish price controls of all kinds on food/groceries. I think people are just stupid.
