Should have everything ordered by the end of today. Ralphie is one state over so shipping is probably only going to be a day or two.

First time doing this - should I aim to ship mid December so it arrives mid-late month, or ship asap?

I would ship it when its ready if its going USPS. They are still experiencing some shipping delays and it will only get worse as we get close to the holidays.

Either way is fine but usually people just Mail as soon as theyíve got it together.

Ralphies should post ITT when they get a box so Santa knows all the porn goodies porn goodies have arrived safely.

If you want to wait until Christmas to open your box thatís fine. If you want to open it right away thatís also cool. Just make sure to post pics of your haul when you do.

Yeah, the weird shipping times has me a little paranoid about stuff arriving in time to turn around and ship it. Not so much the "fun" stuff that can be tracked down on Amazon, but the gun stuff that comes from websites that specialize in surprise backorders.

But worrying about deadlines is in my DNA, so there probably isn't anything to actually worry about.

I have had almost zero issues even into the loving world trying to end in 2020 with Fedex. All of my commercial stuff moves with them and we're about 99.8% on time and accurate this year. Multiple countries.

If anyone has FedEx issues feel free to let me know. Companies get a little bigger ear than individuals, unfortunately.

For what it's worth, FedEx gives me rates that are about one-third the price of USPS and UPS for things much over a pound. If you've got a big sack to ship to your Special TFR Santa Friend, check them out.

USPS, over the course of 100s of tiny sales, has only hosed up twice for me. The gently caress up was missing a scan, but it still arrived with time to spare.

As someone who ships a lot of poo poo, trust me, there's delays. USPS isn't always scanning everything, and then there's places where it's delayed excessively. I'm not sure what exactly is going on but it seems like they might actually be keeping packages in port for extended time before telling people when it's shipped internationally.

This was an actual thing with UPS while I was there. Stuff sent ground started competing with air volume so artificial delays were introduced.

Hubs would aggregate ground volume and basically put it back through the sort to add however many days was needed. There's a lot of internal shenanigans going on with anything shipped that you wouldn't even know existed if you didn't work in that industry.

Once you add the international wrinkle it gets into surprisingly complicated bullshit.

Thankfully I think most of what my Ralphie gets this year is already here in storage so that's nice. Probably go hit up some local markets for that random local poo poo and get it out next week.

If I'm correct, the UK pulled putting already expensive mail on commercial flights and Royal Mail has been forced to charter flights to get mail here. Mailing a loving mini-figure to Australia is markedly cheaper than the UK. Which is just grand when you have some distant relatives you like to contact around the holidays.

I've been getting reports from both the UK and Norway of people expecting their dice and not getting them. I was happy to hear yesterday when one person who'd waited a couple weeks and assumed them lost finally got contacted by the Royal Mail to let them know they can pay duty on it.

No such issues to Canada, Germany, South Korea, Australia, or other places I've shipped to.

It must be recent though since previous shipments to the UK didn't have this issue. It's a major pissoff because it means I have to prepare to possibly make replacement orders, until their respective mail fuckers tell them I can only assume lost at sea.

Even though almost all my relatives in the UK are dead, I've been mailing back and forth with the UK my whole life. My grandmother always said the worst thing about modern Britain was their hosed mail. Seeing as how she hand selected and imported every single antique in the shop I figure she knew better than most.

But it has become ten times worse since covid. I'm believing the thing I was told about RM chartering planes.

Whatís the UK duty rate on dice? If itís the same ďgeneral duty rateĒ that most countries have for non-regulated goods, thatís 3%. On a $30 set of dice, thatís ninety cents.

I don't know about the UK, but I've dealt with similar crap shipping stuff to other countries in Europe. I don't know the full setup over there, but on my end there wasn't any option to pre-pay duty or anything and then apparently it just sits in a box at customs until someone feels like contacting the recipient to pay their $0.15.

It gets even more fun when the crap being sent over is something weird like a book or a handguard for an antique rifle or something with nebulous value.

I don't know but I know the one for Denmark is like $40 or something dumb like that which is more than the actual set is worth.

I mean the gun poo poo is fun too but spending $5 at a dollar store can add that certain little spice of weird that gives TFR secret Santa its unique flavor.

Everything of mine should be here by the seventh, giving me plenty of time to mail it out.

With one exception - the main gift isn't coming from a big retailer. I ordered it last week and still haven't heard anything. Of course the "big" gift is the one stressing me out.

If it's coming from a gun accessory company with their own website and poo poo instead of an online retailer, yeah, those folks can be loving maddening just because it's frequently a small operation. If you are getting freaked you might just reach out with a polite "hey I placed this order and haven't seen a confirmation, I really like your product and am hoping to give one to a friend for christmas, can you check to make sure it's in yoru system?"

I ordered the big part as "ship to store" which means I'm getting zero updates about it before its there for pickup. Not my best idea.

Before I ship it out, I'll probably run over to goodwill or salvation army to see if I can find some weird poo poo for that extra flair.

What Cyrano said right here.

Give you an example. Couple years ago I had a Santa go overboard and got me a bunch of reloading supplies I had asked for. I'm still using some of them! (We had a bunch of conversations in the reloading thread prior to SS if I remember right.)

Out of the whole thing, the part I got the most fun out of? The pile colorful cartoon penis stickers that were used as confetti in the box. They were WAY too fun to use on friends/at work.

My favorite shot glass is one that was thrown in as TFR secret santa extra.

One year I jokingly asked for the shroud of turin and santa threw in a little reproduction of it. It's on the wall in my gun room and I grin every time I see it.

I'm not worried about that delivery window. I like for stuff to land close to Christmas.
