Someone pointed out to me that on Seth MacFarlane shows, the characters have a thing where they unnecessarily explain what's happening and I can't unsee that either. On some level, I think I like when things are ruined for me. quote:I still think it’s funny, but after having rewatched both the US version of The Office and Parks and Rec recently, I think The Office actually may have aged better "Dinner Party" and "The Injury" belong in the television hall of fame, but The Office is hard to rewatch because of all the time they spent on Jim & Pam in the show's prime. Then as soon as Jim & Pam are finally together like everyone always knew they would be, the show unrelatedly gets worse. Also, Jim buying Pam the ring after their first date was the most stupid, cloying thing ever, and yeah I'm still unnecessarily mad about it. Michael & Holly were adorable though. sweet thursday posted:It's a sitcom lol It doesn't exist in a vacuum.

I saw his standup like a year after P&R ended and it was appallingly bad. Like unfunny monologues followed by the Swanson laugh which was the only thing the audience reacted to. A couple half-hearted attempts at blue humor that fell flat as well, and for a Boston audience. He had a quick cameo in the final season of The Good Place and it felt like a direct reference to his P&R character (though I know he's a woodworker in real life too). The dude needs some new material or I think he's doomed to be everyone's favorite character from that old show they used to like, I wonder if he's still alive or got MeToo'd, let's Google it.

You’re absolutely right that the Jim and Pam stuff can get to be really insufferable, but I was still surprised at how non-sappy The Office was compared to Parks and Rec where (almost) every single episode ends with a super-happy feel-good ending where everything is perfect and amazing. The Office has a happy ending overall, but there are plenty of low-points and dark(ish) episodes that see the characters in bad places interspersed with legitimately sweet and heartwarming moments like with Holly and Michael, and it just made that rewatch far more interesting to me because every episode didn’t end with “yay! Let’s all have a puppy cuddle party yaaaaay!” or whatever

I like how Ron Swanson was made to be an unlikeable parody of conservatives and a representation of how useless they are but also how their uselessness is used as justification of why we need smaller government. Coupled that with all your basics of toxic masculinity and just stupid poo poo stupid people love to idolize like DAE LE BACON then nerds from the internet couldn't help but take it at face value and redoubled their cries of GOVERNMENT BAD BACON GOOD They later poo poo their pants when he pointed out that everything the character stands for is stupid.

Lessons aren't always learned on The Office, long-term relationships can be dysfunctional*, success isn't guaranteed, characters can be multi-dimensionally unlikable or likable, etc. Parks & Rec has no loving edge, and I ended up not even watching the last season because I couldn't deal with it anymore. *Ron & his ex-wives don't count because they're already exes. LOL at the lady in this article that tweets that she wasn't paid "for years", and instead was offered free classes. Honey, you weren't working, you were volunteering. The idea of contributing to an organization for years without a check and then tweeting about it just seems so silly. She could've left at any time, its not like her paycheck depended on it.

I went to a beerfest at a local brewery. A friend was like "my friend So-and-so Offerman works here" I was quite drunk at the time so I was like "ohh what is that Nick Offerman's brother?" She quickly shushed me and said "yes, it's his brother". I then saw a Nick Offerman looking guy mustache man and said "IS THAT HIM" very loudly. As a matter of fact it was. I don't really talk to her any more.

Woodworking can still be a relatively inexpensive and rewarding hobby that one can get into with a relatively small amount of space and initial investment. Woodworking is such a great, practical skill for regular people. Look, I could have bought a table at Ikea for $45 that would be functionally identical to this one I built that cost $200 and took a month to finish and will be a pain in the rear end to move with but it wouldn't let me larp as a pioneer man.

P&R is good for like the first two seasons. Sitcoms always go to poo poo when they start trying to strengthen the relationships between the characters, IMO. The office was able to keep being funny for way longer as long as you ignore the Jim Pam stuff. Hot takes on wildly popular sitcoms.

I've built boxes (recently a spray booth for airbrushing) and like to finish wood furniture. But not tons of people have the space (rental properties), nor time (lovely overworked jobs), to take a live edge slab and run it through planers or put it on a lathe.

I recently revisited Parks and Rec, and the toxic masculinity shtick has not aged well at all. He was on Conan O'Brien's podcast with his wife, and they were absolutely horrible because they were doing their gimmick the entire time. The podcast episode made me realize he's one of those one note actors that will hangs onto a gimmick with a death grip until they've sucked all the life and money out of it.
