Hello! Do you want to be a star trecker? To travel the great beyond where none of mankind has gone before except they pretty much did already? Do you want to yell at your fellow crewmates (or subordinates if you are captainning) while in full panic as your ship is suffering hullbreaches from enemy fire while the crew dies trying to repel boarders? Consider buying Pulsar: Lost Colony. https://www.pulsarthegame.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3Zl97oGoN4 Now full disclosure, I haven't played this game that much and trying to find public games is a shitshow in my experience. Pulsar is a first person co-op game where players man a ship, each taking up the role of the five playable classes: Captain - Tells the crew what to do and negotiates with other ships etc Pilot - Flies the ship, hopefully avoiding obstacles Weapons specialist - Shoots the ships guns and also shoots smaller, hand held guns. Scientist - Handles researching stuff, the computer stuff on the ship, and is also healer. Engineer - Tries to make ship reactor not go boom-boom while also trying to make sure the poo poo what needs power gets it. If you don't have enough players for all the roles, bots can fill in as needed. While playing the game you can accept different missions or just roam around blindly, you get some different options when starting the game. Unfortunately the in-game tutorial is not exactly great, but you can learn by doing! Maybe. Or just look up how to do things using youtube guides or scream in voip all panicked. I prefer the latter myself. There are also three races you can pick that each have different advantages and disadvantages: Human: Mostly neutral. Needs to breathe o2 to live tho :/ Sylvassi: Don't need o2, can cloak themselves in a limited fashion, and are immune to cold. They are otherwise made of paper though and will burn nicely. Robot: Don't need o2, lower health but are only harmed by radioactivity as far as environmental hazards go. Also need to be healed by repair guns. Ships: There are many ships and I don't know enough to give a write up on them. The intrepid seems to be the default one, and was the first one to be added. It seems to be a decent all rounder and is pretty obviously inspired by star trek's federation ships. It's also small and easy to navigate through which some of the bigger ships are not. Through your travels you can earn cold hard cash, upgrade your ship and gear and perhaps not fail and die? Also if someone else knows more about the game and wants to write a better OP, feel free. I just want to find people to play the game with tbh and I couldn't find an existing thread for it. Come find a space crew in the co-op goons discord! https://discord.gg/vSNn4Sk organburner fucked around with this message at 21:25 on Dec 1, 2020 |

DeathSandwich posted:Have they made much progress on development in the last couple of years? It was always a game that looks like there was a lot of potential in it, but you had to deal with a lot of jank. Seems like it'd be a great game if you had a consistent friend group that played. Yeah the finding a group to play with has been my issue, I feel like they've added and changed stuff but I might also just not be remembering poo poo clearly. I feel like everyone has more things they can do except maybe the pilot?

DeathSandwich posted:A lot of Engineering is just balancing power/coolant usage. You have manual control over how much power can go to each system and as power usage spikes in combat you'll need to manage coolant to keep the reactor from melting down. You can also use your fuel pellets to send to science to let them send viruses and other nasty things to enemy ships. It and Science are probably the most involved jobs of the lot. Yeah, meanwhile captain seems to be kinda useless in a way to be honest. But at least that gives you one spare guy who can board the enemy while shouting orders...

beer gas canister posted:looks cool as hell, are the bots any good? would it be OK with 2 people? bots are decent enough imo, but I would recommend having more than 2 people as it gets to a bit boring with just 2. The bots just silently doing their duties is just... Not conducive to fun gameplay. Though I feel like the science bot isn't great? Whenever I've looked at the console while in a fight the science bot hasn't activated a single program.

I had the opportunity to captain some 5 and 4 player crews consisting of friends I know and that is definitely the way to go. First game, my excellent pilot and crack shot weapons officers awesome skills and cool heads had us at negative reputation with almost everyone we met and we spent 2 hours emergency blind jumping away from things while trying to make it to our quest objective. Highly recommend, though I don't want to be captain anymore. So many times the jumping procedure goes like: Captain: Pilot, align us with next sector marked, Engineer, prepare jump, jump as soon as Pilot has said we are aligned. Pilot: We are aligned Engineer: So can we jump? P: I don't know ask the captain? C: We're aligned to the zone? (jumps in chair to check zone alignment) P: I think so E:Do I jump? And so on. Very good.
