Agreed. I wear red hightop chucks all day erry day, they're great except that they're in tatters by the one-year mark. For how popular they are, they sure don't seem very well made. Guess I'll just keep buying a new pair every year

I used to wear chucks at work until someone finally realized we should be wearing safety footwear and I had to buy composite toes.

they only recently started enforcing closed toed shoes and long hair tied back, so hopefully I have a while until this happens to me too

My daily carry is usually a Benchmade 930 kulgera, though I carried a 5500 auto mini presidio when I was in Oregon and could have autos.

Both discontinued by now, of course, so I'll be hosed if I lose them. The 930 was tough to find over a decade ago; I bet it's even more difficult now.

Still, I don't believe in garage queens; I carry all my knives. Just, some more than others. Using an inferior tool every day because your good one is valuable kinda defeats the value in the first place, to me.

what is this? im sure its total legal :v:

Looks like a Microtech.

I'd love to have one too, even drop some decent money on one, but California says no.

Well, switchblades aren't illegal to own in CA, just illegal to carry, and to bring into the state. So if you can somehow teleport one here, you can keep it around the house, but that doesn't sound worthwhile to me.

Seeing as I'm loving around with the dash already, I have a spare top LCD screen to fiddle with and as my car is hardly stock, why not change the colour of the screen that is now relegated purely to being a clock...(well there's other things including injecting porn video). I'm changing the backlight colour by desoldering the 3528 SMD Green LEDs with some red ones. I might go blue but I think red is the way.

Spare OG assembly from the old car that I did a Series 2 dash swap on to test (many years under the house worth of grimey goodness):

Took a bit but exposed LEDs:

I'm literally an hour into this idea so LEDs ordered from the US cos cant find anywhere... so recap in Feb or infinity months later....

Keep in mind that different colored LEDs usually have different forward voltage drops. If they're run from a constant current driver, you don't need to do anything, but if it's a voltage source with a current limiting resistor you might need a different resistor (or resistors).

Cheers for that, I am aware but doesn't hurt to make sure, appreciated. Pretty sure I've ordered spec for spec based on powering the original ones off bench supply with constant current etc.

Theres some builds on all the other LEDs (steering wheel etc) but the 'guides' are very limited in actual facts. Also they are written by cagey kents that have their special snowflake auto-leccy website and didn't really appreciate me actually doing guides for CAN Bus stuff they charge a LOT for on their day job.

Sounds like you know what's up, then; sorry to presume!

Hey sometimes you just want to fantasize about stabbing someone in the neck and having a knife in your pocket makes that fantasy a little more real.

this kind of attitude is why the rest of us have to keep justifying why we carry knives as tools

Is there a preference for a blade shape in your knife? The Boker Kalishnakov I'm using now has a tanto shape blade to it, which I find perfect for opening boxes/packages. This is handy given I'm opening a dozen plus shipments a day at work right now. However its a pain to sharpen with the sharpener I have right now due to that shape, especially where the angle of the blade changes towards the tip.

Replacement candidates are bowie, harpoon or basic drop point shapes. I feel like bowie is my best option to have a nice thinner tip for doing fine pointy tip things, followed by your basic drop point and then the harpoon is just because I am terrible and like gimmicky blade shapes. A reverse tanto/wharncliffe would be very up my alley, but they're currently sold out or $15-20 more than the site I bought my current knife from.

Personally, I don't like tantos. They're designed to be strong for stabbing, and that's all. Which is not most of what I use a knife for. As a tradeoff, they have that awkward blade shape that makes slicing more awkward, since there's that inflection point near the tip.

I think a normal drop point is pretty useful, since it has a fairly fine tip without being fragile, a useful length of straight blade for cutting things like rope, and a curved belly for starting a slice. I guess there's a reason it's the default blade shape.

Sheepsfoot maximizes the straight cutting edge, as long as you don't need to start the cut by poking. If you don't, it might be worth the tradeoff. It does look slick, too.

The Leek is a modified wharncliffe, so it has a lot of the benefits of a drop point without the usual downsides of a sheepsfoot.

Lots of options out there!

I'm not familiar with harpoon as a blade shape; it looks like a drop point that keeps going and raises part of the spine? I guess that's one way of getting a bigger blade on a knife that is overall smaller.

Personally, NYE is more of a "singleness awareness day" than Valentine's Day, so I don't usually look forward to it. At least this year everything's cancelled, so it'll just be a normal evening.
