Anyone looked at car-tracking hardware incase of theft? A lot of GPS trackers I find are simple GSM stuff which is being retired here in Australia. Thinking of using a spare android phone with some software linked to my google account hidden in a panel might be the way to go. The way it breadcrumbs was neat when I lost my phone last year and managed to find it from it's automatic location updates. EDIT: Sick of the colour scheme on my cluster in the VE. New one arrived a while ago (apparently a controlled item and ID/ABN required for purchase) and have a few ways to go about the replacement. I can pull the EEPROM and swap them over which SHOULD keep everything including milage accurate, or I dump the HEX off both and go through each part I need to change (obviously the VIN too) Seeing it's over 80,000km on the clock I think the chip swap is the way to go. Will test on old car thats hitting 300k first. Humphreys fucked around with this message at 06:49 on Dec 12, 2020 |

Lucky neighbour was in his paddock and notice that the usual 6'3" bearded giant isn't there, instead a couple of teenagers. He yelled at them and followed them to where they live. Now although I am talking to police as they are going to be done for tresspassing anyway, I couldn't help doing a slow cruise by their known place of residence and wave at the shites. I'm quite placid and happy-go-lucky, but a raging psychopath in the waiting when something of mine is touched. Seeing as I'm loving around with the dash already, I have a spare top LCD screen to fiddle with and as my car is hardly stock, why not change the colour of the screen that is now relegated purely to being a clock...(well there's other things including injecting Spare OG assembly from the old car that I did a Series 2 dash swap on to test (many years under the house worth of grimey goodness): Took a bit but exposed LEDs: I'm literally an hour into this idea so LEDs ordered from the US cos cant find anywhere... so recap in Feb or infinity months later....

Raluek posted:Keep in mind that different colored LEDs usually have different forward voltage drops. If they're run from a constant current driver, you don't need to do anything, but if it's a voltage source with a current limiting resistor you might need a different resistor (or resistors). Cheers for that, I am aware but doesn't hurt to make sure, appreciated. Pretty sure I've ordered spec for spec based on powering the original ones off bench supply with constant current etc. Theres some builds on all the other LEDs (steering wheel etc) but the 'guides' are very limited in actual facts. Also they are written by cagey kents that have their special snowflake auto-leccy website and didn't really appreciate me actually doing guides for CAN Bus stuff they charge a LOT for on their day job. Same as with my Cluster swap, swap the whole chip, no need to do the byte swapping on the VIN hex and other gubbins for milage that is a real pain. Would you like a sanitised dump?
