Back in like 1999 there was a beta for some UO clone MMO that had a lore writing contest. I was 12 and my one page short story won first place. They sent me a bunch of merch and 256 mb (!) RAM which I think was quadruple what my PC had at the time. I look back and lol because I am not a good writer. All of the submissions were posted publicly on their forums and tons of people submitted huge multiple chapter stories. I think I won because my story literally just described the first 15 minutes of actually playing the game.

I won a PS4 one year from Taco Bell, and then an Xbox from them the next year. I won a radio contest where they came and did a broadcast from my backyard (and then left the BBQ grill as a prize).

I won a PSP from McDonalds once, that was pretty cool. When I was in high school I "won" $5k on a radio thing where they announce a random birthday but I refused to call in and claim it because I didn't want any attention and was worried that I'd spend the money on something stupid. Now that I'm older I realize that I DEFINITELY would have spent the money on something stupid and I absolutely should have claimed it but realistically I'd probably still chicken out because I think I might be somehow even MORE shy

I won a Puch moped in a Weekly Reader contest when I was 5 years old. My much older sisters destroyed it before I ever had a chance to legally ride it. It looked exactly like this and was awesome:

I was driving home from work around 2am, listening to the local jazz station and they randomly had a "call in and win" segment for tickets to a concert for a band I'd never heard of. Some....celtic rock group? They're called The Killdares, no clue if they're still active. I called in and won em, felt like a huge winner. I genuinely don't know if anyone else was even listening to the radio station at that hour. The only thing worth mentioning about this incident is that I wound up marrying the girl I took to the show. This is pretty wild to me in hindsight as I did not consider it a date at the time. My wife argues to this day that it qualifies as a date, but she is wrong. These are the exciting, thrillride events and arguments that my life is made of.

When Black Isle studio released fallout2 they had some irc q&a. At the end they randomly chose people to win a free copy and swag. I got picked, they got my email and they sent me an email asking for shipping info. A month goes by, nothing, so I emailed asking about it. They said oops, we'll get right on it. That happened 2 more times and I just gave up. Still bitter about it.

My brother's the lucky one, he's won all sorts of poo poo, including a desktop computer when we were kids. Me? I won this traditional Chinese watercolor of a tiger from an art fair raffle when I was in NC. And there weren't many tickets in the bin for it to begin with, so... But I think it's fun!

My encyclopedic knowledge of Star Wars minutiae won me a copy of the PC game Star Wars: Episode 1 (The Phantom Menace). It changed my life in-so-far that I played the PC game Star Wars: Episode 1 (The Phantom Menace) to completion, rather than just the demo, which I had acquired by sending three Pepsi bottle caps to some place. You may even go so far as to say that this had absolutely no impact on the course of my life, except we can be sure that if I hadn't won I wouldn't be writing this post right now. And really, that's the greatest prize of all.

I won a box of developing fluid as a door prize at a dollhouse convention. I was 10. What a dumb prize. I won a single ticket to the movie Dave from a radio call in contest. Quite the prize for knowing things about the Brady Bunch.

Won a grand on a wheel of fortune slot machine one time, that was pretty cool. Used to win a lot of company christmas party games resulting in hundreds of dollars of gift cards, an xbox one (two years in a row), but that streak has ended. That's about all I can remember winning of note.

When I was a toddler, my parents took me to see "The Shaggy Dog" in the theater. There was a raffle for a Shaggy Dog Radio (basically a plush Old English Sheepdog with an AM radio in the belly.) I won the drawing. I had the dog for a lot of years. When I was about 15, my brother, who was 7 ay the time, was sick and vomited all over it. At that point, I took out the radio and tossed the dog. In 2006, Mrs. Genesplicer and I went to Comic-con in San Diego. She put our names in a raffle from a prop replica company. She won first place (Not the grand prize, which was a bunch of lightsabers). She got a Tracker from "Aliens" and predator spear from "Predator 2", and an alien/predator hybrid hatchling from "Alien Versus Predator". It was quite a nice haul.

I once drove 2 hours to a casino on a day off from work. Wandered around for like ten minutes then sat down at the Titanic (the James Cameron film) themed slot machine. Put in $5, spin and boom Heart of the Ocean, Celine Dion blaring My Heart Will Go On as my winnings kept rolling up. At the end it ended up being like $700. My rent at the time was $500 so that was my rent covered that month. I just grabbed a burger and drove back home. I was probably in the casino for a total of 20 minutes.

A big stuffed Coco Wheats cat from a coloring contest, back in.....1990 (this is literally the only photo of one I can find online). And yes I later realized it was a random drawing and not due to my awesome crayoning skills, it was still a win

I was a finalist in a Shell Livewire out of 50k competitors. I have a giant check with my prize written in it and I got to give a speech, it was cool. I never won anything that involved just pure luck, though, which I guess is pretty fitting.

I won some very nice Sidi motorcycle boots from a raffle on a motorcycle forum. I also won an Xbox 360 from Burger King. I really thought long and hard about trying to win a ps5 from them recently but I couldn’t bring myself to eat there again. Thanks for the 360 BK, I still use it for dvds

When I was going around looking at colleges, Wesleyan had a drawing where if you came to take a campus tour your name would go in the hopper for a $50 Amazon gift certificate. I won. In the end I didn't even get into Wesleyan, but I remember that fondly. At my actual college I went to a Disney-hosted film screening and part of it included a raffle for an "Incredibles" DVD and I won. Sometimes in a weird way the things you win by chance are more fun than the things you win by merit, it reminds you of life's charming little possibilities.

Local pool hall had a lingerie night with a raffle for one of the outfits. I won, but didn't claim it because I didn't have anyone to wear it for me. Also saw a midnight showing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory where my friend won a VHS copy of the movie, but she thought running down the aisle like it was the golden ticket would be too embarrassing, so I did it and she kept the tape.

i won a good amount of stuff as a kid. a sweatshirt from mcdonalds when i was really little, a sega genesis turbo touch 360 from electronic gaming monthly, a basketball signed by the local high school team that won state state that year (one of the players had already agreed to play big10, so i traded it to a friend for 2 sega games), a pretty bad 20 gauge shotgun (sold it, put the $90 or so towards an n64) now that i am an adult and raffles are not part of my life, i have not won anything for a very long time.

I remembered another one, when I won a "Year's Supply of Shapes" (savoury crackers.) There was a stupid web game you had to play and get onto a leaderboard, and all the scores on the leaderboard were from obvious cheaters. So I cheated too and got somewhere on the leaderboard, and other people who cheated quickly beat down my score. But at the end of the competition for some reason all the truly highest scores were scrubbed, but still leaving the cheating scores below them. So I won a prize, which was 52 boxes of Shapes, but you could only choose a single flavour, so it wasn't even that useful a prize.
