:siren:Signs-ups are now open for USPS Operation Santa:siren:

https://www.uspsoperationsanta.com/

They've also launched "adopt as a team" option this year, but in order to register your account, they're going to verify you real name and address. They do this to protect the letter-writers, at least according to the FAQ. If you join a team, your real name and email will be visible to at least the team creator/admin.

I created a CSPAM team before realizing that, but I'm not sure how many people would be comfortable sharing that information. If you want to join, great. If not, you can always adopt letters individually. I wrote their contact email asking if there's a way to appear pseudonymously in a team and if only the admin or if all members can see full name and email information.

I made a dummy account for myself and it appears the name/email is only visible to the admin, fwiw.

"Each year, hundreds of thousands of letters sent to Santa from children and families arrive at Post Offices around the country. Most letters ask for toys and games. Some ask for basic necessities. Some ask for help for themselves and their loved ones.

USPS Operation Santa makes it possible for individuals and organizations to adopt these letters and send responses and thoughtful gifts in Santa’s place."

Some of these letters are absolutely crushing, children asking Santa to give their parents a few bucks to help their mom pay the bills, or for a coat to keep warm.

Operation Santa 2020 will kick off on December 4th. If you're in need, you or your child can write in a letter. If you can help up, you can "adopt" an individual letter and help out that specific child.

Maybe we can crowdsource a gangtag for adopters or something idk

Anyone else having issues signing up on their website? The submit button does an animation and nothing happens, I tried 3 different browsers (Chrome, Firefox and, ugh, Edge). Not sure if it accepted me or not. Maybe it starts the 4th, idk. Gonna do my best to make some kids Christmas a little brighter.

Yeah the 2020 campaign starts on Friday, probably can't sign up until then.

Great! I'll add you sometime this weekend

If anyone else wants to sign up, you could remain a little more anonymous by not posting about it in here but sending an email to my username at Gmail, that way there'd be no tie to an SA username and your rl name

They add more everyday. I know they were all out yesterday.

Is there any way for a Canadian to participate? I'm guessing not, but a lot of these letters are extreme heartbreakers.

I don't think so. Purchased gifts need to be dropped off at a USPS facility.

Thanks to everyone who signed up over the weekend. Letters are gone again right now. I'm guessing that adoption rates will slow down over this week since it all just started on Friday.

Every time I check there's no available letters unless I want to somehow buy a kid a ps5

Which is good that lots of people are adopting letters I suppose!

if there keeps being nothing but requests for $500+ items by the end of the week, we could switch gears to finding some other worthwhile effort

If anyone missed the opportunity, you could always find a local toys for tots or similar toy drive!

Thanks to everyone who participated in either operation Santa or some other way to make a kid's Christmas a little better this year
