THE GAMES OF THE YEAR (2020) AS VOTED BY THE GOONS OF THE YEAR (FOR ALL TIME) So! 2020 has been and gone and we are already in a wild 2021. At least we have the pleasure of learning about how Goons have come together and chosen the games they hold nearest and dearest to their hearts. Frankly, that is why I love these threads. I like to hear people talking and gushing and fawning over the games they love and the reasons why. We have had some killer posts and dare I say a ton of recommendations that have been jumped upon (I have seen a number of people talk about buying a game that was lauded thanks to this thread.) This is when Games is at its best  STATS - in 2018 we had 59 goons who listed 232 unique games. - in 2019 we had 143 goons who listed 390 unique games. - in 2020 we had 180 goons who listed 524 unique games. This took some time to both collate and count and sort and after seeing the amount of time it takes first hand, I would like to give so much respect and admiration for Rarity handling the 2018 and 2019 thread so fast and making them so enjoyable! This year the numbers were wild. Some were skyhigh and very few ties between games in the top half. It seems as though a lot of people were having the same feelings and desires through what was one of the most upending years this 'modern' world has seen. This year was also the year that many people offered up tabletop and card games as their choices. The rise of virtual meetings meant that our trusty video calling apps saw a lot more use and technically, doing it electronic makes it count as a video game (at least I am very willing to allow that!) Despite this being the year of new consoles and a few big ticket games (hello Cyberpunk) was it reflected the in the results? Comiserations to our many games who did not quite break the top 60, and there were a LOT and way too many to get into with having an extra 134 games from last year, but gaze upon the following: The 20 closest runners up Doom 2016 (iD Software) 21 points in total. Mount and Blade: Bannerlord (TaleWorlds Entertainment) 22 points in total. Sakura Wars (2020) (Sega) 22 points in total. Synethetik: Legion Rising (Flowfire Games) 22 points in total. Anodyne 2 (Analgesic Productions) 23 points in total. Shadowrun: Dragonfall (Harebrained Schemes) 23 points in total. Final Fantasy VII (Original) (Square Enix) 23 points in total. Dusk (David Szymanski) 24 points in total. Dicey Dungeons (Terry Cavanaugh) 25 points in total. Assassin's Creed Valhalla (Ubisoft) 25 points in total. Arknights (HyperGryph) 25 points in total. Nier:Automata (Platinum) 25 points in total. Blasphemous (The Game Kitchen) 26 points in total. Resident Evil 3 Remake (Capcom) 27 points in total. Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo) 27 points in total. Celeste (Matt Makes Games) 27 points in total. The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero (Nihon Falcom) 27 points in total. Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo) 28 points in total. Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar) 28 points in total. Deep Rock Galatic (Ghostship Games) 29 points in total. Maybe some will pop back in the top list in years to come? Goodness did a ton of previous entries decide the forums were not done with them and made some seriously high inroads into the numbers. Without further ado, let us begin at #60!
