I'm going to be playing from an external hard drive from 2012 so I'll be sure to give you a trip report but I'm pretty sure that this video game isn't some kind of techno-sorcery and you can download and play it just like you would any other video game

Full disclosure: I never played the Witcher 3. I have however played Witcher 2, or at least the few hours of it before I had to turn it off because I hated it. Ironically the thing that I hated about it the most was the fact that Witcher 2's narrative seemed to be trying way too hard to appeal to 21st century edgelords and the narrative being "dark" simply meant that everyone said swears all the time and there was odd heavy metal music playing constantly. Funnily enough, this is actually one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077; because all those things I hated about Witcher 2 for being, in my opinion, a poor fit for a fantasy setting are in fact assets in a Cyberpunk setting Anyway this is my post about the video games from poland

Do we know when the day one patch will be available on Steam? Would like to preload if possible.

ymgve posted:I suspect the Day One patch is pre-baked into the preloads. After all, it would have to go through certification/testing, which takes a few days in itself. I hope so but I am not sure if this is the case. Steam preload currently sits at below 60gbs which seems low compared to the 100+ we see getting preloaded on consoles, unless the increased size in those cases is due to console jank

Lil Swamp Booger Baby posted:The Steam download was only 50GB so I'm thinking that's not the case for Steam at least. Yeah as much as I'd like to believe that we preloaded the whole thing plus the patch and it's just super duper compressed or something I doubt that the entire game is less than 60gb's, so I'm resigned to having to download another 43 or something tomorrow. I'm just hoping we can preload it before launch hour so I can play immediately (which is supposed to be the whole point of a preload lol)

Geforce 1050 ti trip report so far: Oof Not unplayable, but oof. Managed to tinker with the settings to get a roughly 40fps framerate, mostly with low and a couple of mediums, but I had to turn the resolution down a peg for the first time in memory in order to get it above the 30 range. Getting lots of texture and npc popups, like one hilarious one where NPC's will briefly look like some sort of humanoid sludge monsters for a few seconds before fully loading in That being said, game good so long as everyone knows what they're getting into from a hardware standpoint.

Addendum to my previous post, even with a below minimum spec GPU and a sub-optimal resolution, the game still looks really, really amazing, especially in cinematic conversations or when speeding around fast enough that popup isn't as noticeable. The attention to detail in the art style really paid off.

Also the "recommended settings" that the game defaulted to when I first started it was medium. lol are you for real CDPR? I'm starting to think that they were a bit too enamored with the latest cutting edge GPU tech and didn't devote anywhere near enough attention to mid to low range machines, because that is just laughably wrong

He turned off all the known system killers and slow downs like cascaded shadow. Even the outdoor driving scenes that people said killed their system were running fine. I was eventually going to buy this on PS4 because I was certain my PC would struggle with it. Comparatively it looks and plays smoother on his ancient hardware. What are the known system killers? I'm running on a 1050 ti as well and would love to be able to bump up my resolution

paid money to post posted:People are saying to turn off chromatic aberration, motion blur, film grain, and uh.. shadow resolution? Sorry I don't actually have the game, I forget the name of that particular setting. Also hearing a lot of people saying to do a clean install of drivers from the nvidia site, no idea if that's beneficial for a 1050 ti. I looked around some more and it looks like if you are on a really low end setup like mine (but the game is still playable) then the fidelity settings actually help a whole lot. Ironically I think it's an AMD feature but it seems to be paying off here

I was thinking about a shotgun+gorilla arms build but I'm guessing shotguns are melee weapons anyway since it's a video game, so that might be redundant. I found an energy shotgun early and it can shoot through walls, so if you're fighting indoors you're basically forcing your enemies to contemplate their lives as they wait for the wall to randomly explode and kill them

Nuebot posted:I'm starting to find a lot of the quests are weirdly shallow. I did one last night where I had to talk an NPC down, or not do that and instead murder them. Murdering them got me some sweet exp and street cred for beating a person to death. Talking them down got me thanks from the quest giver. I was free to loot their stuff otherwise because no one in the game comments on it when you walk into their room and just start taking their things, and I'm almost 100% certain the quest payout was same, because if it wasn't it didn't change meaningfully enough for me to notice. I think that the idea is that you are playing the role of a particular character (role playing, if you will) and that you will get more enjoyment out of the setting if you consider the idea of there being consequences beyond your numbers going up
