I was in the grocery store the other day wearing my Renault F1 Team facemask (thanks again ilmucche!) and a security guard came up to me as asked if it was an actual Renault mask. I said yes and he said he was a fan and we chatted about F1 for a bit. He mentioned his favourite team was Ferrari, and I went "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." and he laughed and then looked sad for a minute.

Welp, that's my off-season F1 story.

How about like...

Whichever team scores the most WCC points has their car’s safety equipment removed? Since they’re (Mercedes) always so far out ahead of the other teams on race day, there’s a very low risk of crashing outside of driver error. So let’s let Hamilton and Bottas race without seatbelts for a season. If they sweep 2021? Let’s remove the Halo; and so forth.

The teams that are dogshit garbage (Ferrari) get extra safety equipment to weigh them down so that there’s less of a risk for Merc.

+10kg of success ballast is added to the winning car.

The twist is the ballast must be added to the top of a 15ft pole that must be pointed straight up in the air.

There’s plenty that could be done and karting was just one example. I think them doing gently caress all to spa after someone died on it in F2 is pretty criminal and there would’ve been a very different result if that accident was in F1.

What did you want them to do? The terrain of that specific area forces their hand. There is a cliff on one side of the track so they can't make it wider or divert the track to the left, and the run off on the right is already as wide as it can be. The only other thing they could do there is make that whole area a gravel trap.

Oh wait

quote:

In order to obtain the necessary FIM Grade C licence, the circuit has redesigned run-off areas, with gravel traps to be installed at five key corners including La Source, Raidillon, Blanchimont, Les Combes and Stavelot.

At several corners, including Raidillon where Formula 2 racer Anthoine Hubert suffered a fatal accident in 2019, the run-off areas will also be expanded.

I think this counts as more than "gently caress all" but I'm not a professional amateur race car kart driver and expert on all subjects.

I stream it from my steam link. Just open the F1TV webpage and launch a video fullscreen. then turn on steam link, close big picture mode and it will just display whatever is on your desktop.

Their initial strategy (later imitated by Racing Point) was so successful they got a lot of poo poo about the originality of their car. Since then they've floundered, perhaps because of a lack of engineering depth or maybe just plain bad design. I don't know, I don't think anyone does outside the team's technical staff.

Their model for running the team was an interesting idea but it looks like Gene Haas has - like so many others - got sucked into the spending black hole F1 inevitably becomes. More staff, more infrastructure and you might as well stick to the traditional model.

Their model fell apart as soon as they chose to base it on a Ferrari.

williams is in that bad of a shape that they cant even put some renders of their loving car? whats the angle they are doing with this launch i dont get it

The idea was that it's an AR app so you hold you phone up and it puts a life-size render of the car in your living room or whatever so you can nerd out about it. Normally for timed releases like this (the actual launch for the car is tomorrow) you're supposed to have an update at the time of release that pushes the actual content.

But Williams gotta be Williams.

[edit] I got a hold of the 3D files from the AR app dump, it's really cool see how intricately designed every tiny little piece of an F1 car is. This all looks super cool and I wish I understood CFD and aerodynamics better so I could see what every little wing and flap did and why it was there.

Good job Reebus.

It’s not that hard to do cfd you just import the model to the programs and press the mesh buttons.... the problem is that model is so complicated geometry wise you probably need an extremely pricey licensed version to run it in any reasonable timeframe and even then it will probably still crash the program

I figured out how to do it in Fusion360, but because I have the "Education license" I have to push the computations _-=*tO tHe ClOuD*=-_ which means I have to buy a bunch of Autodesk points or some poo poo, and I honestly can't be hosed to dump money into something as stupid as this.

I might see if I can get a hold of Solidworks or something and try it with that.

Good job Binotto, making the livery as much of a mess as your hairstyle was a really brave choice.

At least we won't have to see much of it since they don't give air time to the backmarkers.
