Looks fun so far! The alternate ship lists are interesting. I’ve claimed Lyon as a lucky ship—does it give anything away if you hint at when she might appear?

If anyone is thinking about following Alikchi's Twitter LP of this game I highly recommend it.

Sometimes he remembers to add dates to updates so you can try and work out what's going on.

I checked and it looks like he’s jumping ahead from here so I didn’t want to “spoil” myself on certain things. It’s worth following for those who don’t mind that though!

If as believed one of Lex/Sara has been sunk, what are his current carrier assets in theater? The one that was sunk (probably Sara) was NE of Hawaii so wasn’t one of the ones operating near the Marshalls earlier, so we can figure that those were the other one (let’s say Lex) and Enterprise. For the UK, Ark Royal is believed to be somewhere near Singapore with Force Z. Has the mod added any carriers save for Ark so far?

How are you doing compared to vanilla Japan? Two-three sunk carriers this early along with what seemed to be a very good Pearl attack should mean you’re doing great right?

What is the current carrier lineup? Do we outnumber them at this point in time at least?

If I read the first-page post right then Japan starts with the same carriers as historically. For the Allies, Lexington is still out there, while Yorktown should have arrived in theater by now, but that still means poor odds for the Allies even if the two British carriers get away from this encounter.

Interesting. The historical Sealion was a Sargo-class submarine, along with Seadragon and others. This pic identifies her as a Seadragon-class. Is that just something with the way WITP portrays submarine classes, or has the mod changed around US submarines?

Are you losing more airframes than him, or does he just have a greater diversity of airframes? I see that his aircraft loss points are higher, but then I look at the aircraft loss numbers and see 250 Zeroes, 100 Betties, etc. without any Allied aircraft having such big numbers.

Just caught up, interesting going so far. Seems like the navy side is well into the "quiet" phase after the initial flurry of fuckery when the Allies' stuff is spread out all haphazardly. What do we think made it out from Force Z? I don't play the game myself, but it seems likely that at least one of Repulse and Ark Royal sunk.

Just in general, I don't have a good handle on what the Allies still have for capitol ships in this extremely early stage. For actually mobile forces, it's... Enterprise, Lexington, Yorktown (or if not, very soon), a couple British battlecruisers, 3-4 relatively undamaged US BBs, and whatever light carriers I forgot existed? With another 5-6 damaged BBs from Pearl, plus whatever is alive yet of Repulse/Ark Royal/Prince of Wales under repair, and Hornet on the way in a couple months?

It’s possible the mod may have added more BBs or BCs for the Allies at this stage, though one of the extras (the ahistorical Dutch BC Kortenaer) is already at the bottom of the ocean near Sumatra. I think you’re right on carriers unless the mod has added some. As far as small carriers go I don’t think the US has any right now and HMS Hermes may also be dead—if memory serves she was badly damaged last time we saw her.

Right, I had forgotten that we saw Australia and New Zealand earlier. Didn’t know the Allies would already have pulled the old BCs and the funny half-carrier out. Did those start on the West Coast somewhere or do they get transferred from the Atlantic (if you know)?

When the combat report says a plane is damaged, is that at least a damaged plane that makes it back, or does the game model that damaged planes might not make it back to base? Is that counted as an ops loss?

Really rough times in the air above SEA for you right now. I looked up those Ib Oscars to see what the issue was and dang, they are criminally undergunned for a 41/42 warbird.

Having never played a War in the Pacific multiplayer game, is this usually how they go? Alikchi seems like he is being super cautious and isn't really using his carriers contest you or even raid. He also seems to be using a minimal amount of his surface fleet. (Mainly using the old ships to doing surface raiding)

Alikchi isn’t being as cautious as he could be—in some multiplayer games the Allied player just gives up a lot of places to the opponent and falls back to a defensible line somewhere around the historical extent of Japan’s conquests and waits for the Japanese player to overstretch themselves, for the landing bonus to expire, and for more ships to come into the theater, before starting to push back. I would guess that the players agreed not to do that though since it’s kind of unsporting.

Losing G5Ns in such numbers seems like it hurts, though. Is there a safer way to employ them? Are they better saved up for mass raids? What will they do later in the war when the Allies have even more and even better fighters?
