all those ships you can see are Titans, the largest ships in EVE Online. they are nerd chariots of the highest order and are basically Star Citizen ships but in a real game. each one costs about $1,300 of real world money if you wanted to just buy it. 6 were destroyed in the screenshot i posted

we are trading ships pretty steadily on each side, goons are pulling ahead. but just the fact that this battle is happening means we win; our alliance is extreamly rich we have more titans than we do titan pilots. this is not even our main HQ, or the emergency backup HQ.

that means if we trade ships 1:1 their invasion is over and we are still a major power

What precipitated this attack? Were you warned in advance by any means?

2020 has basically been World War 2 in EVE, this is the capstone battle
https://imperium.news/world-war-bee-week-25/

quote:

Week 25 of World War Bee was basically even with week 24, with 27 noteworthy hostile actions and a few major battles, outside of border skirmishes, per INNís tracking. Action was as diverse as the prior week, with Delve, Querious, Catch, and other regions in the mix.

The ISK split in the war zone of the Southwest remains 65% to 35% in favor of the attackers. The belligerents have lost 55.4 trillion ISK, up 1.3 trillion week over week, with 509,697 ships lost, an increase of 14 thousand week over week.

Across New Eden, since July 1, the ISK split is now 46.5% to 53.5% in favor of the attackers, another week over week for the Imperium for a fourth consecutive week. The belligerents have lost 71 trillion ISK, an increase of 2 trillion week over week, with 602 thousand ships lost, an increase of 17 thousand week over week. The average ship cost 117,900,000 ISK. A rough estimate of the real world cost of the war is no less than 987,000 USD/740,000 GBP/829,000 EUR.

There were six fights in week 25 that exceeded 20 billion ISK in total losses, three of which were strategic victories for the Imperium, one was a strategic draw, and two were third-party fights for PAPI forces. Of particular note was the death of the NOL-M9 Keepstar, a major dreadnought brawl in Scalding Pass, and a failed dreadbomb by the Imperium in T5ZI-S.

The three major theaters are the North (Fountain and the border with Aridia and Cloud Ring as well as northern Delve), the South (the rest of Delve, Querious, and Period Basis), and the East (Paragon Soul, Stain, and Esoteria).

THE NORTHERN THEATER

Skirmishes in the North continue to be sparse and relatively expensive small gang actions, including several ratting gangs getting ambushed with expensive ships and pods. Monday was a relatively busy day as an Elitist Ops gang ambushed a Pandemic Horde Nyx in Northern Delve. Some time later, PAPI forces dropped Eagles, Tempest Fleet Issues, and capitals on an Imperium Cerberus fleet, killing 3.2 billion ISK for 2.1 billion in losses.

THE EASTERN THEATER

During week 25 of the war, Catch saw a significant uptick in action. The week began Sunday with the Reavers SIG and The Initiative reinforcing Legacyís primary staging of GE-8JV in Catch, losing 8.5 billion ISK while killing 8.2 billion. Shortly afterwards, the Reavers then ambushed a Maller gang further up the pipe, killing 1.6 billion ISK for 3.3 million in losses. Two days later, on Tuesday, the Imperium showed up to challenge Legacyís defense of the Brave capital system, but ultimately failed to kill the iHub, despite destroying 19 billion ISK for 12.2 billion in losses.

Wednesday was busy in the East as TEST lost an Azbel in Catch. The Imperium also killed more iHubs in Catch (pictured above). Shortly afterwards, Stain Russians lit into more Legacy gangs, killing 4.1 billion ISK for 111 million in losses around their staging capital. The week finished Saturday with Dreadbomb dropping on some Legacy Hels in Catch, killing 66.2 billion ISK for 584 million in losses.

THE SOUTHERN THEATER

Week 25 in the South began with Goons losing a Tatara in Querious. In short order, a Black Ops gang dropped on Goons in W6V, killing 5.5 billion ISK for 315.5 million in losses, followed by Goons counterdropping on some Black Ops battleships in Delve, killing 3.6 billion. The border skirmish battle report shows the Imperium killing 23.7 billion ISK for 21.7 billion in losses. The Monday border skirmish battle report was much slower, showing the Imperium with 8.2 billion ISK in losses, while PAPI lost 5.6 billion. A busier border skirmish battle report Tuesday saw much more action with the Imperium losing 32 billion ISK for 25.5 billion killed.

Wednesday saw the first anchored Imperium Keepstar lost in NOL-M9 in Delve. Shortly afterwards, the two sides showed down over the GOP-GE iHub, with the Imperium killing 19.9 billion ISK for 7.3 billion in losses but failing to kill the iHub. The Imperium also bumped a Fraternity Leviathan off of a citadel in E-VKJV in Fake Querious, and killing the AFK titan. The border skirmish battle report saw the Imperium kill 13.8 billion ISK for 11.1 billion in losses.

Thursday was relatively quiet for the holiday, with the border skirmish battle report showing the Imperium killing 18.9 billion ISK for 13.2 billion in losses. Fridayís Christmas day battle report was quite interesting as the Imperium failed a dreadbomb on a titan on the T5ZI-S Keepstar, killing 34 billion ISK for 119.4 billion in losses. Saturday had the Imperium defeat a Drekevac gang assaulting a Fortizar in its hull timer, saving the structure, and killing 2 billion ISK for 391 million in losses. Slightly later in the day, a Goon Tech 3 Cruiser gang fended off a Caracal gang hacking an iHub in 0-HDC8, killing 1.4 billion ISK for 570.4 million in losses. The border skirmish battle report to close off the week saw the Imperium kill 39.5 billion ISK for 19.5 billion in losses.

ELSEWHERE IN NEW EDEN

Tuesday saw the Imperiumís John Hartley take a bomber gang to Detorid and kill a number of Unreal Alliance capitals, destroying 46.7 billion ISK for 10.4 billion in losses. The third party fight previously mentioned saw a PanFam show down with Dreadbomb and others in Scalding Pass, with all belligerents losing a total of 340.1 billion ISK. Lastly, the Imperiumís FC Ultra Cow took a battle group to Cobalt Edge killing a number of Veni Vidi Vici capitals as well as a supercarrier, destroying 55 billion ISK for 1.8 billion in losses.

there are special "rare" titans where the blueprint only drops after a huge fleet battle with an NPC faction. they cost the same number of minerals to build, but the rareness of the blueprint means these ships are worth 10x what a normal titan is. these ships are also only like 15% better than a normal titan

so yes, well the "average" ultra nerd is flying a $1300 ship the whales of EVE are flying ships worth $10,000+

Ok, so Rutibex, you mentioned that this "wasn't even our emergency backup HQ".

How does this work, in that, how do the enemies not know this? Is the info of where your other, I'm gonna say at least 2, HQs are secret knowledge? Or do they all know where it is and have to get through this fight first?

Also, I'm assuming based on your info earlier that they just have a 0.0. chance of coming out ahead in all of this, correct? They think they're tearing you down, but it's like they're trying to demolish a house by removing wallpaper. Is that accurate?

I know it's naive to ask this, but like... if that's the case, how do they not know this? How are they that dumb?

the thing they are attacking is a "keepstar" which is the biggest space castle in the game. normal alliances can afford maybe one or two for their capital system. goonswarm has over 60 keepstars. the one they are attacking right now is in a backwater nothing system. our capital system 1DQ has what is called the "Dyson Sphere" protecting the most important Keepstar (the one where the goonswarm market lives). this is a shell of 50+ faction space castles surrounding the capital keepstar. if they attacked our HQ they would not trade titans with us 50/50, it would be an utter slaughter.

but the 1DQ keepstar is not our final defense. if they manage to attack 1DQ we have a super dooper fortified system set up in Y-OMTZ called "helms deep". as you can see from this map, OMTZ is in the exact corner of the galaxy, they would have to fight through two fortified systems to reach our final fortification. this is assuming they already defeated the 60+ keepstars deployed throughout our space

So you can just not log in after downtime while you're in a giant battle, and you're unkillable? Lame.

Also are those borg cubes just poo poo at combat or something? I'd have thought that would help in the fight but the goons lost more titans so no?

their titans are not safely docked in a space station. we can deploy warp scrambling bubbles on the location where their fleet logged off, so if anyone tried to log back on they die.

The game seems profoundly boring, but I do enjoy the highlight reel articles that come out every now and then. But my one question is how, even for people who enjoy a spreadsheet simulator, it can be at all fun to play if goonswarm is so dominant? Doesn't that just mean you have the choice of either being wrecked by them or joining with them–which as far as I can tell means you are exploited by some sort of multilayered bureaucracy of more powerful players? From an outsider's perspective it also sounds like those more powerful players have developed a kind of lowtaxian style of administration.

goonswarm has not been at the top all the time, we got our asses kicked in 2016 in a similar war of annihilation called the "casino war" or the first "World War Bee". in 2016 goonswarm was nearly destroyed, an alliance of every player in EVE attacked us and conquered all of our space. we have been preparing over the last 3 years, mining building up a Super Capital fleet to make sure that never happens again.

https://www.polygon.com/2016/6/8/11875960/world-war-bee-over-the-imperium-the-mittani-casino

quote:

The community in Eve Online has been at war for months now. World War Bee, as players refer to it, has seen a mercenary-led faction called the Moneybadger Coalition move against one of the game's largest player-led organizations, called The Imperium, in a bid to drive them from the Northern part of the map. After weeks of bloody battles, including the most deadly engagement in the game's 13-year history, World War Bee appears to be over.

But while the Moneybadger Coalition (MBC) is claiming victory and beginning to decamp, The Imperium's fleets remain largely intact. Polygon reached out to some key figures in Eve, including a player known as "The Mittani" ó the leader of The Imperium ó to learn more.

"The Imperium is dead," Mark "Seleene" Heard told Polygon on Skype late last week. "The bad guys are gone."

Heard, a long-time Eve player and formerly an employee of developer CCP, started out jovial, then quickly became serious. "Well, not necessarily gone. The very short version is that all of The Imperiumís former territory is gone. Itís been taken by all the various entities of the MBC."

A quick look at the community-run Eve sovereignty map confirms that, indeed, all of the pale blue sectors in the Northwest have vanished and been replaced by a rainbow of colors representing some of the key members of the MBC.

But Heard warns that the history of Eve Online is littered with false victories, and what is needed now are other players to occupy and defend this hard-won territory in the North. Many of the people Polygon interviewed said it's a great time for new players to enter the game, as sought-after "nullsec" territory at the edge of the map is up for grabs for the first time in years.

what is happening now is World War Bee part 2
