so they built them by using AI to figure out how to place the stem cells together in the right pattern, they didn't even use any modified cells. and xenobots just throw ingredients in the pot there until its a stew. fully construction-based life, absolutely wild. this is like if you put bones together in exactly the right way they leap up, do a dance and play a tune on their ribs like its a xylophone. the ability for AI to just loving slice through impossibly high dimensional configuration space on such fuzzy elements is loving terrifying

i've been reading some warhammer crime novels because i'm trash and they've had good space detectiving. currently working through bloodlines by chris wraight, finished flesh and steel by guy haley had a really good scene where the protagonist walks through a servitor factory and sees the processing floor. legitimately pretty horrifying.
