I just realized that this month we're getting debuts of both Foundation and Y: The Last Man, two series I absolutely loved and was adamantly convinced the adaptations of would never leave development hell. Open Source Idiom posted:This is the most I've liked Melissa McCarthy in years, but all the guests are very good. Killer ensemble. Hard agree. This is maybe the only time I've liked her at all, and not only do I like her here, I think she's great. Same to a lesser extent with Luke Evans.

Well poo poo, I had no idea he was the Fonejacker. What's this Titletown High show that's just appeared on Netflix? It looks like Friday Night Lights: The Reality Show.

The amazing thing about the Enterprise intro song is that they used an even more up-tempo rock version of the song in seasons 3 and 4 and made it even worse. Like, that takes legitimate effort to pull off such a colossal boner. Two and a Half Men's theme is also unconscionably bad.

I like the first version ironically and like the second version unironically . You're a coward if you skip it regardless. I mean, you've already committing to watching Enterprise, might as well ride it all the way.

You're the ones who are pretending you don't like the song. It's been a long road, getting from there to here. It's been a long time, but your time is finally here to admit you like it.

I've never watched Firefly because that's a show for nerds but I just listened to the theme song, and it is indeed terrible. Throw in Justified's opener for awful songs.

I think the worst theme song change was Killjoys. It went from a fun song to "whoo hooo, whooo hooo, whoo hooo, whoo hoo"

If you want to be depressed watch 9/11: One Day in America on Hulu . It is really good, but they do linger on some of the more horrifying things in the first episode. I don’t think I have heard anything more horrifying than the footage of the NYCFD when the bodies from jumpers kept hitting the ceiling above them. Hughmoris posted:Throw in Justified's opener for awful songs. I saw Gangstagrass at a local festival and despite the fact I would never listen to their music on purpose, they were great live. Of course the crowd went ape poo poo when they played that Justified song. I also saw Mumford & Sons back on their first album tour because wife was fan. They also put on a good show. That said even my wife hates them since that album and she hates the Ted Lasso theme that Marcus Mumford does.

Is anyone else watching Lego Masters? It kind of owns? I think mostly because of Will Arnett (who I honestly wasn't a big fan of before this), and the fact that they make fun of the standard reality competition show format on the show. anyway I'm one of those people that calls them legos, and I recommend it

99% of the reason Top of the Lake was cool was the moody setting and near haunting visuals of a remote small town in New Zealand. Season 2 moved to a major city (Sydney) in Australia and it just looked like any other crime show and all the magic was gone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GqxlmvOEcE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H3Rjw-2Pq4

Open Source Idiom posted:She's pushing back against it all -- the ingrained sexism and racism, and the stupid poo poo that she doesn't believe in but is still loving with her head. Plus she's literally just gotten away with murder so she probably felt pretty invincible. Oh, for sure, Fenna deffo had a crush on Kristen, quite possibly reciprocated. When Fenna was showing Kristen her body, they cut away right as Kristen half-looked like she was about to lean in for the kiss. As far as we know, she did, especially with the way Fenna was clutching Kristen's bedshirt to her and giggling, rolling around on her bed. Ultimately, whether it be eros or phillia doesn't matter, the point is that it's her humanity, her human love and connections to other humans, and it's something that they have to give up to live in the monastery, that she gives up. She gives the whiskey bottle to Kristen as some kind of farewell, but can't even her in to hug or even look her in the face. Whether friend or lover, that kind of intimacy is exactly the kind that they've turned the monks have turned their back to. But peace is more complicated that just isolating themselves from the sinful world. This show glamourizes the hell out of sexuality and this episode was no different. David could find peace in the monastery, but he'd have to give up all the great pleasures and joys of the world. Which would be fine if those things were bad, but... this show feels way more pro-hedonism than that. The only way to avoid all pain is to completely box yourself in, but then you end up like Fenna, with an empty life that drives you to be as bitter and numb as the other old women we saw. These monks fenced themselves up in a hell of their own making and they're rotting in there.
